Selling lens to dealer

Selling to a dealer, I'd say to expect about 50-60% of market value. The dealer has overheads, taxes and then profit to factor in.

Getting a dealer to sell for you, typically 20% commission of the sale price.

If you want the maximum return sell via the forum, or ebay.

I can tell you the exact numbers if you sell it to the store. B&H offers $3500 for a BNIB 24S (the price on B&H website is $8795) and $3200 for BNIB 100S (the price on the website is $7795). So, they offer about 40% of the price. It depends a lot also on how popular the lens is, and if they expect that they will sell only 5-10 copies per year, they won't offer much.

Leica SF offers $4000 for 100S.

KEH offers $1000-2000 per each lens, very little.

Which lenses are you selling?

When B&H quotes you, by the way, they will follow through as promised.

Other Leica dealers, including two mentioned in posts above, are not so predictable. So be prepared for a bit of last-minute haggling as the S market is very slow (and has been for a long while).

Don't have experience with KEH and Leica SF but I can confirm that B&H follow their quotes strictly.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a lot of dealings with Leica Miami and they will sell on consignment and I believe it is 20%. I have traded in a lens or two and the allow 80% of market value. They seem to sell a lot of used S equipment. I have purchased a couple of CPO lens from them.
