innerimager Posted June 10, 2007 Share #21 Posted June 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I find the 90 elmarit (latest) to be an exceptionally good, working lens. Very fast focus, extremely sharp at 2.8. excellent colors and contrast, quite light. Highly recommended. best....Peter
Advertisement Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Hi innerimager, Take a look here Best 90mm on M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Lotw Posted June 10, 2007 Share #22 Posted June 10, 2007 I own a MacroElmar 90 and it is perfect for me, this F4.0 does not bother me because M8 is still good at ASA1250 and I own the S'lux 75 1.4 for situations in which I want selective sharpness. Focussing is no problem and it is very accurate. Here's an example from a handheld capture (cropped). Welcome, dear visitor! lct Posted June 10, 2007 Share #23 Posted June 10, 2007 I have a collapsible 90/4 Elmar... Has anyone experience with those classics to draw on, to help me decide whether it is worth the CLA cost to make it usable?... I have one from 1957 but i did not try it with the M8, only film and R-D1. From f/ 5.6 to f/11 it looks slightly sharper than my 2 other 90 (Elmarit # 11129, Tele-Elmarit # 11800) but it is a bit soft at f/4. As far as flare it is far from perfect but it's better than the Tele-Elmarit. Elmar 90/4 # 11131 at f/4: Elmarit 90/2.8 # 11129 at f/2.8: Tele-Elmarit 90/2.8 # 11800 at f/2.8:
James Mitchell Posted June 10, 2007 Share #24 Posted June 10, 2007 I'm beginning to prefer the Nikkor 85/2 over any 90mm I've tried with the M8. I finally got a 486 filter for it, and was astounded by its sharpness, bokeh and adaptability for portraits...

Artichoke Posted June 11, 2007 Share #26 Posted June 11, 2007 as there are many Leica 90's and few (other than Putts & Reid) have experience with many of them I have experience with only one, which I recent acquired used at a local camera shop for what I consider a bargain it is a serial number 279 xxxx with a 48 mm ring and a built in tripod attachment it's performance both stopped down & opened up seems stellar open close up Welcome, dear visitor! arthury Posted June 12, 2007 Share #27 Posted June 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) M8; 90mm Summicron-M APO Asph It's a nice lens but it gets a little clunky focusing it using the little frame lines. Magnifier can be attached to improve it. If you are wearing glasses, be sure to get the Leica's version (which is expensive) because the ones sold by HK Supplies has no rubber protection and it will scratch your glasses. bill vann Posted June 12, 2007 Share #28 Posted June 12, 2007 the CV is superb but 3.5 is limiting to me for portraits. after trying multiple versions of the 90 including the 2.8 elmarit (thin, very reasonable$$$ and exceptional the 2.8 - 2.0 difference is noticeable for portratits). i finalized with the last pre asph 90 cron. actually ended up with mostly the past pre asph liking them more than the asphs the exception being the 21mm asph, if felt the pre asph disappionting. the only other asp i have is the tri-elmar and the wate on order. the asphs may have beterr contrast resolution...??? but my last few clients remarked that i must have gone back to film based on thier portraiture. horses for courses but i find such difference in how leica (and CV lenses) paint a picture. need them all when the docs say pick 2 aarrgghh bill

phovsho Posted June 13, 2007 Share #31 Posted June 13, 2007 I'm really looking forward to getting my 90mm Macro. One question - does the macro attachment/googles simply enable/improve focusing or does it also shorten the minimum focus distance? Cheers M
marknorton Posted June 13, 2007 Share #32 Posted June 13, 2007 Murray You can think of the macro adapter as being an extension ring which changes to focus range from 0.8 - Infinity to 0.5 to 0.76m. The goggles adjust the main and rangefinder windows to look at the closer object. Finally, the lens is mounted upside down to preset the user with a different distance and depth of field scale and a different profile focussing cam through a small plunger which presses against the roller. bmxjo Posted June 13, 2007 Share #34 Posted June 13, 2007 Couple offbeat 90 cron wide open shots Hi Guy! Just one question, did you use a preASPH 90 Cron for these two shots or the new ASPH Version? Greetings from Vienna/Austria

jonoslack Posted June 13, 2007 Share #36 Posted June 13, 2007 I'm really looking forward to getting my 90mm Macro. One question - does the macro attachment/googles simply enable/improve focusing or does it also shorten the minimum focus distance? Cheers M Take care Murray - my 90 macro elmar back focused and was soft - I'd registered it, so it had to go back to Solms - for 4 weeks or more - it's come back, and it back focuses and is soft (different, better even, but still unusable). If I were you I'd check it out straight away, and return it to your dealer if it isn't okay. I bought mine over two months ago, and still don't have a good lens
phovsho Posted June 13, 2007 Share #37 Posted June 13, 2007 Cheers Jono. I'll be sure to test the focus beforehand. M
grober Posted June 14, 2007 Share #38 Posted June 14, 2007 "Best" is always subjective, of course. All depends on subject matter, shooting location and need for speed. Hand's down, the 90-APO Summicron is my choice for all around "best" 90. BUT ... there are times when you may just not want to pack its bulk. Some years ago I picked up a clean, compact 90 Tele-Elmarit 2.8 and have yet to be disappointed by any image it has captured. Doesn't get used a lot but always comes through for me when I do use it. It all depends on your shooting requirements and ability to tolerate the extra weight of the larger lens. -g
Mauribix Posted June 14, 2007 Author Share #39 Posted June 14, 2007 Thanks guys for all your precious answer!!!!! after reading and especially viewing your posts, yesterday I decided to go to my Leica dealer and try some of these lenses. I could try the Cron and the Elmarit. I loved the Elmar since the first glimpse through the box... I loved his weight and $!! I could imagine a real better quality of the Cron due to his price.... but i couldn't notice so much (I know it's my fault!)... so i think that I will be a new 90 elmarit owner soooooon.... i'm just waiting to see and try the Macro one.... I will let you informed step by step!and open a new thread!! BEST WISHES Maurizio MAURIZIO BEUCCI.com - Official web site
sinwen Posted June 14, 2007 Share #40 Posted June 14, 2007 I don't have the M8, just film M's; I made the choice of the Macro Elmar, it is a lovely little beast. I read on a french mag recently a comparison of all the lenses for the M8 and their choice was precisely this Macro Elmar as the best tele lens for the M8. Here is a picture taken hand held 1/4sec f4 on slide then scanned, it gives an idea of how it handles high contrast Welcome, dear visitor!
