alan.y Posted July 11, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 11, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I seem to remember reading here that the old Multi-function Handgrip (designed for the S2, part # 16003) does NOT work on the S 007? Can anyone confirm that this is the case? The ill-matched rubber armor notwithstanding, I'm not really sure why it shouldn't work. Thank you. Advertisement Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Hi alan.y, Take a look here Old 16003 Multi-function Handgrip on S 007?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John McMaster Posted July 11, 2016 Share #2 Posted July 11, 2016 The S2 grip does not fit the S(006) so I doubt it fits the S(007) john
hoppyman Posted July 12, 2016 Share #3 Posted July 12, 2016 (edited) Multifunctional Grip S #16028 fits and works with both Typ 006 and Typ 007 Multifunctional Grip S2 #16003 S2 might possibly fit???? but it would not work. . The design difference is in the battery capacity even though their physical case form is the same . The new battery works with the older camera too but not vice versa. Typ 007 detects battery type and will not work with the old battery. That's a shame for me since I still have S2 and two batteries for it as well! First world problems ;-) In Australia at least, the list price for the new model is actually about 40% cheaper than the earlier one.Another edit:#16028 fits and powers up S2. My S2 refuses to read or format the CF Card from my Typ 007 just looking quickly. Edited July 12, 2016 by hoppyman
alan.y Posted July 12, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted July 12, 2016 Im aware that the old batteries dont work on the s 007 but im still confused as to why the old 16003 grip doesnt work (with a new battery in it) on the 007. I assume you mean the grip has some electronics in it that recognizes the battery type and doesnt work with the new type. This is a pity (and a pita) because the 16003 grip is much cheaper used. I gather physically both grips should be the same aside from the rubber texture.
hoppyman Posted July 13, 2016 Share #5 Posted July 13, 2016 Alan I presume because the circuitry may be different? the interface layout does appear to be the same. The new and old batteries work in the new grip on the old camera. The old battery does not work in the new grip on the new camera. You could ask Leica Camera of course. I don't know about used unit prices, as mentioned, here in Australia the latest grip is quite a bit cheaper when buying new.Given the price of the camera bodies, the new grip is a relatively cheap accessory! If you are seeing much cheaper used prices on the original grip, that may be a clue that they don't work on all of the S cameras after the S2?I could only suggest that you find a dealer and just try a used original grip on the Typ 007 and new battery
vintageaxeman Posted October 13, 2016 Share #6 Posted October 13, 2016 I wish to buy a spare battery for a S2-P. Does anyone know the Leica code number for suitable batteries please? Thank you!
John McMaster Posted October 13, 2016 Share #7 Posted October 13, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think that the new S(007) batteries work as well as the original ones. http://en.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-S/Technical-Equipment/Replacement-battery-S john
hoppyman Posted October 13, 2016 Share #8 Posted October 13, 2016 Yes John is correct I am sure. You just cant use the old batteries in the new camera.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted October 14, 2016 Share #9 Posted October 14, 2016 I put a 007 battery in my S2. No problems. I put an S2 battery in my 007 and got a warning and the camera did not work. Gordon

vintageaxeman Posted October 15, 2016 Share #12 Posted October 15, 2016 (edited) So the new batteries fit the old S2-P....which are better performance or longevity? The new ones or the older ones? And which memory cards would you recommend for the S2-P, this is on fashion shoots where a lot of pics are taken.... Thank you. John McMaster Posted October 15, 2016 Share #13 Posted October 15, 2016 As the price is similar I would go for the later battery, I think it is higher capacity. Use the fastest CF cards rather than SD cards in an S2-P john
ZHNL Posted October 15, 2016 Share #14 Posted October 15, 2016 Anybody know will16003 will work with S007? As far as I know 16028 was introduced with S006 and will work with S007 for sure. I personally tried 16003 on S006, even it meant for S2, it works fine on S006 however I forget try it with S007. I asked Leica Store, they were not sure as they don't have 16003 in stock to try it on S007.

Use the fastest CF cards rather than SD cards in an S2-P john Thank you for the info....so with CF cards in the S2-P, what capacity can I go up to? Just 32Gb like the SD cards? Or up to 64/128 etc... Also, are there different aspects to CF cards like there are with SDHC, SDXC, Class 10, U etc....and what IS the best to use in the S2-P? Many thanks.... Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted July 5, 2017 Share #17 Posted July 5, 2017 Question regarding the grip for the S007. I still have a battery from my S006, I know it doesn't work in my S007 body but would it work in the grip? Thanks Neil
John McMaster Posted July 5, 2017 Share #18 Posted July 5, 2017 Why not just try it? john

John McMaster Posted July 5, 2017 Share #20 Posted July 5, 2017 If you do not have the grip, I would order an 007 battery at the same time ;-) john
