Supplemented with a CL when I need to know I’ve got my shot (low light conferences, family shots, etc), but my M9 generally gathers dust now. It took some experience to get used to its metering needs, and it seems to work best with particular lenses (but that might be me rather than the camera). With a Summilux 50 or Summarit 35 the M-D is a joy.

nickd Posted August 18, 2019 Share #105 Posted August 18, 2019 Daniel, what is your experience with the Arte di Mano half-case? If I'm not mistaken, you need to remove the camera's baseplate, and the half-case replaces the baseplate. The half-case has a magnetically-locking "door" for easy access to the battery and SD-card compartment - how secure is this "door", does it require a reasonable amount of force to open, etc? I am considering the Arte di Mano half-case for my M-D 262, but I am a little concerned about the "door", as well as the possible ingress of dust with the camera's baseplate missing. Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated..,.

danieldouloslee Posted August 21, 2019 Share #107 Posted August 21, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) @nickd - thanks for your question! my copy does not have an easy access for the battery and sd card slot. that'd be very interesting, but as you said, would collect a lot of dust. i wouldn't get one with that feature. this is the one i have: https://artedimano.com/Leicacases/?idx=98 @gunston - thanks! I got the M-D in february as I previously had the M240 and M262. Wanted something more film experience like (at times, i miss the live view feature when it comes to composing very close shots, but loving the experience!) rhl-ferndale Posted August 22, 2019 Share #108 Posted August 22, 2019 Late to this particular party room, but have been happily using the M-D as my primary M for two years. Its test run was in Firenze in mid-October 2017, mostly with a ZM 50 Planar. My wife brought her RX100iii, and we had an X100s for backup (prime lens for her, low light for me). How relaxing it was to let go of years of being a digital chimp! To trust instinct and intuition and experience, not to mention the SD card. Two years on, I’m trading away and selling off other gear, other systems, to refine my M lenses. And getting the M-D a distinct collaborator (though not a seeing-eye dog!) in an M 246. pippy Posted January 16, 2020 Share #113 Posted January 16, 2020 (edited) Just found this thread! In the run-up to Xmas I picked up (as I've written elsewhere) an ex-demo 140-ish cliks example boxed with all the original contents. Absolutely LOVE this camera. Due to 'life stuff' I've only had a couple of hours' worth with her but really appreciate the different approach I have adopted; takes me right back to my M2 days (1980 - 2007) with the added benefits of variable ISO and, of course, TTL metering. Here's something from my first outing. Late evening sun about to set, La Rochelle Old Port. Lens was a 28mm Elmarit-M ASPH; Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Philip. EDIT : Sharp-eyed viewers, on seeing the three dots which straddle the right-hand-most flagpole, might be forgiven for thinking my sensor needs a good clean. In actual fact they are gulls! I have to say I'm delighted with the whole M-D / 28 f2.8 ASPH combination. On the flagpole of the main tower the cord from which the flag is flown is clearly delineated in the full-size image. As this cord is only around 10mm in diameter I can't complain about the resolving power of the lens nor of the CMOS sensor... 🙂 Edited January 16, 2020 by pippy
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Does Someone here know about, how many M-D Type 262 Bodys in Total, where produced ? There is another thread with a discussion on numbers made here (link below). If you go down to post #7 you will find a (partial) list of known serial numbers. The following is going to be 100% pure unadulterated speculation but bear with me; if the cameras were made in batches of 100 we can see that one batch might be running from 49824xx. The next batch (200 cameras?) would appear to be numbered 49875xx and 49876xx. Then 49986xx and so on. If we extrapolate this to its conclusion then, based on the numbers here, there might be around 700 bodies worldwide. Philip.
SalvelinusAlpinus Posted February 6, 2020 Share #118 Posted February 6, 2020 Thank You Philip, so this «Massproduced» Camera is going to be quite rare in the Future. I will not sell Her...😊
a.noctilux Posted February 6, 2020 Share #119 Posted February 6, 2020 (edited) In this tiny market, niche ² in niche , the mystery manufacture units number can be very good thing. So at most 700 units of M-D in the market. One day, Leica may confirm this "number" if they want to 😌... Now that we have M10 Monochrom, will Leica offer one day M10-D Monochrom ? I'd prefer M-D Monochrom but maybe this will never be on the market, niche ²²² Anyway, as it is , this M-D (typ 262) is good enough for what I do with it now, and maybe some years to come. I think it would be more accurate to surmise that, purely based on utter guesswork using the numbers in the thread, there is a liklihood that there were at least 700 cameras manufactured - and possibly considerably more. Remember that we only have a small, select group of serial numbers to consider here; there is the probability that numbers exist which were not known at the time the post in question was written. But it is certainly one of the less-frequently seen models from Leica's recent output. Philip. Edited February 6, 2020 by pippy
