ramarren Posted December 24, 2016 Share #961 Posted December 24, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) ... The Canon 17TS-E easily covers 33x33. That would give 17/33 = 0.52. I bet an X1D Canon adapter comes out soon. ... Likely will never happen. You need lenses with in-lens shutters. Regards ergonomics and usefulness, I saw the X1D early in the demo cycle. Even then it seemed fine and easy to work with, I would have been happy with it just as it was. The grip in particular was beautifully shaped, reminds me of the Olympus E-1. I guess I'm just not very demanding and don't really use many of the bells and whistles that others seem to demand.
Advertisement Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Hi ramarren, Take a look here Leica SL or Hasselblad X1D. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
scott kirkpatrick Posted December 24, 2016 Share #962 Posted December 24, 2016 Overpriced ecosystems indeed! I was seduced by Fuji. I'm no longer happy with the idea that 2x the price of a wonderful camera with a unique viewfinder like the X-Pro 2 is considered a reasonable-to-low price to pay for a lens. I am still having a good time in the SL's ecosystem, and the prices are coming down a little bit. I also agree that when I am about to head out the door for an M sort of occasion, and I am not worried about achieving the highest quality, the X Pro2 with a 50-eff/2, a slotted lens shade and its great viewfinder seems to end up in my hand. scott
Belle123 Posted December 24, 2016 Share #963 Posted December 24, 2016 Just an update. No X1d for Christmas yet, unless Santa is delivering! That is OK. I suspect will arrive in February or March. Occasionally I have a talk with myself to ask if I should just forget it, but I always come back to the same answer. I enjoyed medium format in film days so hoping to find the same joy with this camera in a compact body. My order is still active. For those of you getting an SL for Christmas, ENJOY and have a Merry Christmas!

Flu Posted December 24, 2016 Share #966 Posted December 24, 2016 Yesterday, I had a first hand play with the X1D. Although the form factor is nice, it isn't the snappy camera that the SL is. In fact, it's slow in use compared to the speedy SL. Autofocus works, but was slow. File writing and review were both slow compared to the SL. Only one focus point on a mirrorless system? Did I do something wrong? It just seemed to me that overall the processor was underpowered for the 50MP files. Tho I'm sure the files are excellent, I for one will not be picking one up until they get it snappy!

If you only had 1 focus point, then you were using a camera with old firmware. http://static.hasselblad.com/2016/12/Release-Notes-X1D-1_14_2.pdf Edited December 24, 2016 by wellfleet
jrp Posted December 25, 2016 Share #968 Posted December 25, 2016 My quick demo with earlier firmware suggested that the system would be likely to produce great pics, but it was slow (which is OK for things that don't move). But the firmware, which had an early Beta feel (I crashed the camera several times) needs to be properly tested and to mature. In the meantime, having an SL with 24-280 zooms and a 50mm f1.4 covers a large proportion of shooting situations. (Shame about the flash.) And, also in the meantime, if you really really need the pixel density, get yourself a crop-sensor 24Mpx camera. :-)
scott kirkpatrick Posted December 25, 2016 Share #969 Posted December 25, 2016 (edited) Thanks for shrinking, but sorry, with 5MB and 12 MB, respectively, still too large. POP's message is a bit obscure, since he has erased my post twice for exceeding the 0.5 MB image limitation, but not before 6-8 people did view the pictures. I don't upload to the LUF servers, but keep good quality selects, usually reduced by 4X, on Flickr. This lets me find them again, make albums to share with friends, and sometimes downlink them for discussion here and on the GetDPI forum. These jpegs seem to run from 4 to 8 MB each. The point of the post was that I was out yesterday seeing how a sorta X1D equivalent, cobbled up from a Hasselblad SWC with a Phase One P45+ digital back and various cables hanging over the side, would compare with the way the SL sees and renders some outdoor scenes. Here are links to two of my "X1D" fullsize medium format shots from a ruined hilltop village outside Jerusalem: https://flic.kr/p/QndKTP and https://flic.kr/p/Pj1mz6 . To see how the SL with an APO SC 50 rendered the same subject matter as the second of these, go to https://flic.kr/p/PiYGwK or to https://flic.kr/p/Qxx8Uk for a wider view. scott Edited December 25, 2016 by scott kirkpatrick

alib Posted December 27, 2016 Share #971 Posted December 27, 2016 Would someone care to answer this nagging how long is a piece of string question i have... all things being equal, does the weight of the lens and glass diametre affect the image quality. The reason I ask is that the SL lenses are both heavier and have larger diameter glass than the X1D lenses. I know it is not apples and apples, but still.... and if my theory holds water, then using the SL lenses on the X1D may be a possibility?? Thanks

LocalHero1953 Posted December 27, 2016 Share #973 Posted December 27, 2016 And the diameter of the glass doesn't determine the size of the image it makes at the sensor.
steppenw0lf Posted December 27, 2016 Share #974 Posted December 27, 2016 (edited) Every lens is built/planned for a certain "image circle". You could also call this the "dimension", size or "calibre" of the lens. The SL lenses are made for the classic "full frame" size (= 24x36), while the X1D lenses are built for the 33x44 area that this sensor has. As long as a sensor is smaller or equal it is no problem. But in this case the size of the sensor is not compatible. (among many other things) So if they were theoretically attachable, then they would only be producing a sharp contrasty image for about two thirds of the sensor area. (864/1452 results in about 60% in rectangular shape, so plus some additional space as the lens produces in reality a circular image.) (Like using a Nikon DX lens on an FX camera). Jeff S Posted December 29, 2016 Share #979 Posted December 29, 2016 Fuji Rumors indicates official announcement of GFX on January 19th (one day after the Leica Rumor'ed M10), presumably including pricing. The gear landscape should get more interesting in a few weeks if rumors hold. Jeff
Chaemono Posted December 29, 2016 Share #980 Posted December 29, 2016 (edited) Some food snaps with the SL. The first two with the 24-90 and the last one with the 50/1.4 in a very dark place with a little light from the ceiling above and a candle in the background. https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-B9Zmbg/ Edited December 29, 2016 by Chaemono
