Peter H Posted December 7, 2016 Share #861 Posted December 7, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Any sign of multi-point AF? Not a deal-breaker for me but unless I'm completely misreading things it looks like it won't be happening. In any event, I can't see how it could easily be controlled apart from on the touchscreen which is only useful for tripod work. Otherwise without a joystick or pad and just the two control wheels available it doesn't look like it would be an intuitive process or that the camera has been designed for it. Ming Thein just commented that both the touchscreen and the command dials can be used to control the AF ponits. LocalHero1953 Posted December 8, 2016 Share #867 Posted December 8, 2016 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes that would be a good way to do it. It's the only way to do it without a joystick. But I don't think it is a good way, unless you're holding the camera away from the eye to use the touchscreen (and try using a finger for fine adjustment of focus point). Holding it to the eye, two horizontal dials will not be an instinctive way of working. Edit: I have no interest in buying the X1D, though I am always interested in what competing high end makers are doing. In this case, implementing multipoint focusing without a joystick or similar looks odd. Edited December 8, 2016 by LocalHero1953

Yes, I think it is odd which is why I was sceptical about whether we'd actually see multi-point AF at all, but I was wrong apparently. Which is a small bonus for me, even if the control is implemented better in almost all other contemporary cameras!

Belle123 Posted December 8, 2016 Share #874 Posted December 8, 2016 My shop got their demo version this week and contacted me saying Hasselblad will be shipping orders next week. So, maybe some of us that have been on the wait list long enough will receive. I don't know where I am on the list, but the fact I was contacted has me a tad excited!
Guest Posted December 8, 2016 Share #875 Posted December 8, 2016 Billinghambaglady, you are right to be excited! It is a great camera. I have had 2 hours of demo now and I am really pleased with what I have seen, handled and been able to check the results and play with the files, the end result! They are impressive files, in and out of the studio.

That combined with the ease of use and superb handling are the things that mark this camera out from the herd. It won't suit everyone but for those it does, it certainly is something to get excited about.
