Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted October 24, 2016 Share #542 Posted October 24, 2016 I wonder if the moderators will allow for a section in the Leica forum for the large number that jump ship as such so that we will be able to post pictures from either of these Hasselblad or Fugifilm mirror lesbian cameras

Peter H Posted October 24, 2016 Share #545 Posted October 24, 2016 Monday morning update: I've had a response from Hasselblad about the banding. They've analysed my photo and as a result they've recalled the individual camera which they say needs correcting since the banding shouldn't be there and they've never seen it before, in the X1D or in any other camera that uses the same sensor. It didn't appear in the other X1D that was being used on the demo alongside this one that I was using. That was a very quick response, which I'm pleased about, but I'd still like to understand what caused the problem, but being a one-off pre-production issue, I'm not too concerned. Sorry if I'm sounding like a salesman. I'm trying to be objective, but I am quite enthusiastic about the camera.
lct Posted October 24, 2016 Share #546 Posted October 24, 2016 Interesting thanks. Size wise which Leica M or R lenses would you compare X1D's to?
Peter H Posted October 24, 2016 Share #547 Posted October 24, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Interesting thanks. Size wise which Leica M or R lenses would you compare X1D's to? Imprecise, but the 45 felt like a slightly fatter version of the M 24mm Summilux. I think the XCD is a trifle lighter at 417gms to the 24mm's 460/470, I believe. It also felt like a current 75mm M Summicron or Elmar R 60mm 2.8 in terms of weight and size, but again the XCD is fatter. The filter size is 67mm. The 90, which in appearance and dimensions is identical to the 45 but about 1 inch or 25cm longer and 200gms heavier, felt slightly bigger and heavier than a 75mm Summilux M. The XCD lenses don't have aperture rings. The front dial just in front of the shutter release button changes the aperture. (It can also be set on the back screen I believe, but I didn't use it that way, but probably would on a tripod sometimes, now I come to think of it.) I found the wheel 100% natural but I can see it putting some people off. I thought they balanced well and felt very comfortable to hold and use. They are nicely designed lenses in my opinion, but handling is a very personal matter isn't it?
Guest Posted October 24, 2016 Share #548 Posted October 24, 2016 I am looking forward to actualy seeing one and handling it in November when I have my demo chance. But all this info from Peter H is building up the interest, I hope I am not dissapointed when I do finally see this beast.
Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted October 24, 2016 Share #549 Posted October 24, 2016 Peter I'm hoping to get a demo in December when I'm in Dundee for Christmas. I've just got an email from Alistair at Ffords saying they are hoping to get a demo soon. You never know they might even have one for sale by then

helged Posted October 24, 2016 Share #551 Posted October 24, 2016 Sorry if I'm sounding like a salesman. I'm trying to be objective... ... but about 1 inch or 25cm longer and 200gms heavier... Salesperson or not: The length units seem to rather flexible in the Hassey-world ... Otherwise; thanks for the hands-on info!

I said 25cm or one inch and 200g because I was estimating roughly, but I've looked it up for you: The 45 is 75mm long and weighs 417 g. The 90 is 100mm long and weighs 619g. You're welcome...

The best bargain is to buy once, and buy right. Tough to do when the product has no track record and you haven't had hands-on experience. But that's not what keeps you entertaining. Jeff mate a thousand bucks is a thousand bucks which ever Way you look at it. It's hard to think it's going to be a dud...... yea it might have some hiccups at the beginning but it's going to happen so this is what makes given up 1000 bucks a decision. After my escapades in India with the 503 tripod and co........ I would even consider a Sony A7........ my back is killing me. The problem is, once you've tried and used MF, you don't want to go back to a little FF sensor. For sure you can get amazing pictures out of a ff camera (iPhone included) but it ain't going to match MF . It's a wee bitty like when I bought the M6......... you remember that thread "film oddysy " or something like that. It's was the best thing since sliced bread until I got my hands on the Hasselblad 503........ M6 has now found a permanent resting place in the dry box....... just no comparison. Just go and look on the leica S image thread conspiracy to the Leica M picture thread and tell me you can't see the difference. When it comes to printing you can see the DPI's ( I like to print at A3+ for my portfolio books and up to 5 Feet for prints on my website) I'm going to get the X1D....... I just don't know if it will make the rest of my Leica gear obsolescence I guess I will just have to wait until after Christmas On a closing note, it will be interesting to see how much of a waiting time there will be before all the backorders are for filed Neil

I've shot with 35mm, medium format (bigger negs than the X1D sensor), 4x5 and 8x10 (that's 8 inches by 10 inches if you didn't know), and have done my own printing (and matting/framing) for over 35 years, so I have a pretty good idea about these things that you've barely dipped your toes into. The X1D isn't the only game in town, and if you end up selling it (like you did your M system), only to buy it back or switch to something else (like you threatened to do multiple times with your S system), then those fits and starts cost real money over the longer term. That was my point....due diligence, buy once, buy right. You thought your S system would be light enough to be your all-around camera....remember that?.....that could have been easily understood by a week long demo. You bought the M6 not long ago and it's already sitting in a drawer. If you didn't understand the basics of 35mm vs medium format IQ, that could have been easily addressed upfront with some simple testing....not by quick decisions based on forum chatter. Maybe you should pick up a large format view camera and see the differences there, too....even making contact prints....not this puny medium format. Spontaneity....and GAS....the stuff of forum entertainment. Jeff Edited October 24, 2016 by Jeff S
