LUF Admin Posted June 3, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 3, 2016 Here is the full press release with images: Leica S-Adapter L - Leica S Lenses at the Leica SL Some questions are still open - the PR doesn't tell anything which functionality the adapter has (AF, aperture control, transfer of focus information for depth-of-field display) Andreas
Guest VVJ Posted June 3, 2016 Share #3 Posted June 3, 2016 I also desperately searched for some tech specs on the Leica website...
LUF Admin Posted June 3, 2016 Share #4 Posted June 3, 2016 Just got some information from Wetzlar: Adapter provides autofocus aperture control and focus information used for depth-of-field display It can NOT be used with the Leica T.
ynp Posted June 3, 2016 Share #5 Posted June 3, 2016 I wonder if it works stacked with the Contax 645 adapter. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Steve Spencer Posted June 3, 2016 Share #6 Posted June 3, 2016 Has anyone seen the price in US dollars? The UK price appears to be 950 pounds including VAT, so a straight conversion would put it at about 1,100 US not including tax. That sounds about right, but prices don't always follow the conversion. Guest VVJ Posted June 3, 2016 Share #7 Posted June 3, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I assume that the central shutter (CS) function of Leica S lenses is not supported, right? Besides that, is it safe to say that the full function of Leica S lenses is supported?
Guest VVJ Posted June 3, 2016 Share #8 Posted June 3, 2016 I wonder if it works stacked with the Contax 645 adapter. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk I own that adapter as well. It normally should... Because the R adapter for the SL is not available yet people currently stack multiple adapters as well...
Steve Spencer Posted June 3, 2016 Share #9 Posted June 3, 2016 I assume that the central shutter (CS) function of Leica S lenses is not supported, right? Besides that, is it safe to say that the full function of Leica S lenses is supported? No, it isn't supported. Leica has said from the announcement they were making the adapter that the CS wouldn't be supported on the SL.
scott kirkpatrick Posted June 3, 2016 Share #10 Posted June 3, 2016 From the press release that Andreas links to, the CS lenses ARE supported. scott
Guest VVJ Posted June 3, 2016 Share #11 Posted June 3, 2016 From the press release that Andreas links to, the CS lenses ARE supported. scott The Leica S has a dual shutter system: focal plane shutter and central shutter. With the CS lenses you can choose which one to use. My understanding is that CS lenses are supported on the SL but only in focal plane shutter mode. You can use the CS lenses on the SL, but you can't use the central shutter. Sorry for not being more precise.

My understanding is that CS lenses are supported on the SL but only in focal plane shutter mode. I think you are right. I cannot imagine that the Central Shutter will be working on the SL. As I understand from my experience with the S2, the focal shutter in the camera plays some role in the exposure making with the central shutter, they dance together a very complex dance. I am not sure that the shutter of the SL was created equal to the S focal shutter. That's why I have no hope. The Q is the only 135 format Leica with the central shutter yet. ramarren Posted June 3, 2016 Share #15 Posted June 3, 2016 I don't own any S lenses, nor am I likely to buy any, but the Audio-Adapter AA-SCL4 becoming available is interesting to me.
Suteetat Posted June 4, 2016 Share #16 Posted June 4, 2016 So considering that the adapter is available and let say that you already have 24-90 and 90-280, if you are going to add S lenses to your SL setup, what would you get? I suppose if I have extra cash, I would consider the 24mm since that is the weakest focal lenght for 24-90 and may be 100/2 for portrait or 120 apo macro I suppose to fill the gap that is still missing. Which S lenses would you think will complement the SL well?
ddanois Posted June 4, 2016 Share #17 Posted June 4, 2016 The 180 APO was one of my favorites when I owned an S.

I am sure that the S70 will very good on the SL , but I would wait for the 50mm SL lens. I plan to use my M lenses as wides. Jeff S Posted June 4, 2016 Share #19 Posted June 4, 2016 So considering that the adapter is available and let say that you already have 24-90 and 90-280, if you are going to add S lenses to your SL setup, what would you get? I suppose if I have extra cash, I would consider the 24mm since that is the weakest focal lenght for 24-90 and may be 100/2 for portrait or 120 apo macro I suppose to fill the gap that is still missing. Which S lenses would you think will complement the SL well? Keep in mind that the S has a .8x crop factor for 35mm equivalent.....so, for instance, the 120 has a 96mm equivalent field of view on the S, but would act as a 120 on the SL. The DOF is also shallower on the larger sensor camera. I mention this only because descriptions from S users may not fully correlate with use on the SL. Also, one should read the S forum to understand AF motor issues with S lenses, even though Leica has stated that they will repair them even if out of warranty. The 120 is most often cited, but not exclusively. Best to go in with eyes open. Jeff
Steve Spencer Posted June 4, 2016 Share #20 Posted June 4, 2016 I will likely get the 120 Macro. I like the focal length and a high quality macro for the system that also does portraits well is something I very much value. I want to see how the S lens do on the adapter on the SL first, however. If there aren't any serious glitches, then I will get the 120.
