Would you be able to share with us how you did the backgrounds? Thank you, Bart Leroy. Thank you for your comment. As far as the backgrounds I had various backgrounds printed on to 30" x 30" canvas and sometimes place them behind my subject material. If I feel the background is too dark or too light for the subject I will use PS to "Dodge" or "Burn" various areas. On the occasion where I didn't use a background I may again in PS "Select the Subject" and add a solid color to the background. This latter alternative is not time efficient, nor as aesthetically pleasing as simply starting with a selected complimentary background. Disadvantage is that all of your images can begin to look "background similar". I am sure there are better techniques than I've stated....but I'm learning and love the process.

t00l1024 Posted August 9, 2020 Share #2163 Posted August 9, 2020 I've got a whole set of hummingbirds from today. Challenging with a 28mm Q2 and requires a lot of trust on the hummingbird's part. I'm probably about 2-3 feet away from the feeder, and had to crop quite a bit. Welcome, dear visitor! I have the best success placing a nice background behind the feeder in my line of photography. I then use flashes in manual mode that fire synchronously. The Q / Q2 work fine with Canon flashes in manual mode.

Manual focus too? I was having better luck waiting for the bird to coming into my focus spot as I stood still (in the sun). Thank you!

Do you shoot bursts too (assuming the flash can recover)? Manual focus too? I was having better luck waiting for the bird to coming into my focus spot as I stood still (in the sun). Thank you! Bursts generally don’t work. Maybe at the slowest speed. Flashes need time to recover. Lower power is one of the keys. A narrower light pulse stops wing movement and the flashes can cycle faster. I pre-focus and use MF. Lots of bad shots to get a few really good. I substitute flowers sometimes and have a spray bottle with sugar water that I spray on the flower. During setup it’s key that the flashes provide all the light. Without the flashes the pic will be dark. I use optical connection between flashes to ensure simultaneous firing. The leaf shutter in the Q / Q2 is special. It allows flash sync to 1/2000 of a sec. That really helps to set the camera up so the pic is dark without the flashes. I look forward to seeing your photos. Feel free to message me with any questions. I can send you a pic of my setup.

Leica Guy Posted August 16, 2020 Share #2171 Posted August 16, 2020 Never Bored! Discovered this beautiful flying bug on our glass entry door last night. A quick grab of the Q2 and into macro mode. Used the Canon MR-14 EX II Ring Flash. 1/250, f/9, ISO 100, handheld. Love the ease of using this beautiful camera. I put the camera in manual focus mode then using the focus peaking moved the camera as close as I could at minimum focus to get the highest resolution possible. I could have used the close-up filter, but I didn't take the time. That would have been even better. Welcome, dear visitor! Leica Guy Posted August 23, 2020 Share #2180 Posted August 23, 2020 Diamondback Rattlesnake. 🙂 We'll, maybe a little Garder Snake, but it seemed pretty scary initially. Garder Snakes are harmless and eat small bugs and insects. Found this one sunning near our house. The Q2 in macro mode with a ring flash is magic for capturing photographs of such creatures. All fun. 1/1000, f/10, ISO 200, Canon MR-14 EX II ring flash on 1/64 power. Manual mode. Welcome, dear visitor!
