Tailwagger Posted April 28, 2016 Share #321 Posted April 28, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm beginning to suspect that the true purpose of this camera and pricing is an clever ruse to get M240 adherents to accept the 262 as the second body of choice. Certainly has me reconsidering it's value proposition given its pricing.
Advertisement Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Hi Tailwagger, Take a look here The Leica M-D thread - merged.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted April 28, 2016 Share #322 Posted April 28, 2016 The current M 240 is 5mm thicker than the M8/M9 body, which is why the old Leica accessories don't fit (half case, grip, etc) Actually, I use my M8 full case (on the rare occasion I use one) for my M240. The only difference is the location of the tripod bush ( which is the reason the grip doesn't fit btw) - so I drilled another hole. The cameras are the same size, as is my M9... As soon as my 240 is back from Wetzlar I'll post a comparison photograph to convince you. I'll throw in the MM1 too...

imants Posted April 28, 2016 Share #324 Posted April 28, 2016 I guess Leica has hit the Apple syndrome .............run out of ideas, hence all the subtle variations Looks like Leica's equivalent the the IPhone SE

willeica Posted April 28, 2016 Share #327 Posted April 28, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I regularly use Leica cameras of different types made between 1926 and 2016. I don't perceive this camera as a digital M7 but rather as a stripped down M240. The M240 has some 'clunky' features such as the exposure compensation that involves a button and a thumb-wheel. This system is carried through, in a slightly different form, into the M-D. The compensation thumb-wheel on the D-Lux ( inherited from Panasonic and also used by Fuji) is far quicker and more instinctive. I generally prefer to change settings looking down on the camera rather than through the viewfinder. I know that many people won't agree with me on this but that is how I adjust my old non-metered film Leicas. There are other handling issues as well, some of which would be a matter of personal taste. For example, if you move the shutter speed dial with the camera to your eye, you will not know what shutter speed has been set. My 40+ year old M5 gives me the shutter speed in the viewfinder Based on handling issues alone, I would have to handle this camera before considering purchase. Where I live I would have to travel to another country in order to do this. A real 'first world' problem. William

I can compare when I get home, but the thumb tab would explain the difference in listed specs.

Or the M6 which has probably the largest number of special editions ever seen on any camera?
a.noctilux Posted April 28, 2016 Share #331 Posted April 28, 2016 If the new M-D is same size as M (type 262) less LCD screen, that is very nice indeed. Or maybe it's an illusion. Edited April 28, 2016 by DezFoto

Arnaud It would be even nicer if they shaved off the 1 mm that the LCD protrudes inside And still nicer if the slimmed the upcoming M 1 or 2 mm. I would not like them to go back to the thickness of the film Ms, though. Nowadays they feel a bit skinny in my hands.
bocaburger Posted April 29, 2016 Share #334 Posted April 29, 2016 I wonder when the next generation comes out (which many believe may be later this year), will there be analagous (not analog ) versions to the current spate of M240 variants, or will they be doled out piecemeal as has been Leica's wont in the past? tobey bilek Posted April 29, 2016 Share #335 Posted April 29, 2016 I like the thin body. Will not give up image screen to get it. May as well use film and be suprised.
Krauthead Posted April 29, 2016 Share #336 Posted April 29, 2016 I understand now. Since the number of pictures is only limited by the battery, it does not matter if you can see them or not. Some are bound to turn out well.
Nick Bedford Posted April 29, 2016 Share #337 Posted April 29, 2016 I have an M Typ 240 and I depend on Live View (and playback) for certain types of photography, namely landscapes and using a polarising filter, but I would totally use one of these if someone sent me one. Morry Posted April 29, 2016 Share #338 Posted April 29, 2016 I want M-D Monochrome but I know it would then be ridiculously expensive due to even smaller number of anticipated units to be sold...

BigBabyEarl Posted April 29, 2016 Share #340 Posted April 29, 2016 Been shooting a ton of digital in the last 6 months. Just got some film from awhile back developed. The M-D will give you the experience of learning to focus more on exposure as the mistakes can be costly. Oh and it will make you realize that film looks waaaaaaaaay better for the same effort.
