In the colonial town of Mompox , Colombia a small troop of red howler monkeys checked us out.

Funny indeed! And I add trhat I was also interested by the old-style tiles - similar to the ones I had on my old houses in South Portugal.

Tejas is the origin of the name Texas. But actually the word originates from the name of an American Caddo tribe in East Texas known as the Tejas meaning "Friend".

Why the word is attached to kind of roofing tile ..... beats me!

Very nice up close view.   These are the creatures that make those quintessential "jungle" sounds at night. I've never seen therm leave the trees in the rain forest, their colors show up beautifully here. Thanks.

Jeff - Thank you.

Wallace - These red howlers are smaller than the ones we've seen in other places in South America, and the blonde patch on the back is unique to to the Colombian sub species.

Fun Photo. I built a home in the trees in Costa Rica and became close friends with the black howlers hanging around my open living room area. They never touch the ground for any reason.

Well, Stuny and Jeffry, I think the Texas/Tejas/Caddo tribe has nothing to do with the name of the tiles! These tiles have been named Telhas in Brasil and Portugal for many centuries, and I should definitely choose this origin - basically same in all Latin languages - for your "tejas".
