stuny Posted April 5, 2016 Author Share #5 Posted April 5, 2016 Pencils, Brent & Bill - I know those roof tiles as "tejas" which might be the origin of the name of Texas.
Jeffry Abt Posted April 5, 2016 Share #6 Posted April 5, 2016 Tejas is the origin of the name Texas. But actually the word originates from the name of an American Caddo tribe in East Texas known as the Tejas meaning "Friend". Why the word is attached to kind of roofing tile ..... beats me! stuny Posted April 6, 2016 Author Share #8 Posted April 6, 2016 Jeff - Thank you. Wallace - These red howlers are smaller than the ones we've seen in other places in South America, and the blonde patch on the back is unique to to the Colombian sub species. albert Posted April 8, 2016 Share #10 Posted April 8, 2016 Fun Photo. I built a home in the trees in Costa Rica and became close friends with the black howlers hanging around my open living room area. They never touch the ground for any reason. stuny Posted April 9, 2016 Author Share #11 Posted April 9, 2016 Al - Thank you. Someday I must tell you of Arturo, the 6 month old red howler who bonded with us in the Manu in Peru.
Pecole Posted April 10, 2016 Share #12 Posted April 10, 2016 Tejas is the origin of the name Texas. But actually the word originates from the name of an American Caddo tribe in East Texas known as the Tejas meaning "Friend". Why the word is attached to kind of roofing tile ..... beats me! Well, Stuny and Jeffry, I think the Texas/Tejas/Caddo tribe has nothing to do with the name of the tiles! These tiles have been named Telhas in Brasil and Portugal for many centuries, and I should definitely choose this origin - basically same in all Latin languages - for your "tejas".
