1. You use huge lens hoods?

2. You use lens hoods hugely? (i.e. definition - to a very great extent)

3. You are huge and use lens hoods?

4. Any combination of the above?

Please clarify ;-)

I use hoods on huge lenses.

And yet, i managed to permanently mark the front element of a 135 APO in an afternoon by walking with it face down in a new camera bag. the lens cap popped off and the result was a large blemish in the middle of the front element.

Gordon,

Sorry to hear that.  The Leica Academy speaker, as I mentioned earlier, was speaking of the more modern lenses like the 21mm Summilux which he used the Scotchbrite pad on.

And, I'm not saying that I don't try and protect the front of my lenses.  Just, the modern lenses are pretty tough.  I don't use filters to protect them.  Filters can degrade the image and they are expensive.  I'm sure I would have several thousand dollars of skylight filters.  I could ruin a lot of lenses and have Leica repair them for that kind of money.

Salesmen love to sell these things to everyone that buys a new lens.
