Advertisement Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Hi Herr Barnack, Take a look here Panda Edition Leica M-P set. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
FrozenInTime Posted January 27, 2016 Share #2 Posted January 27, 2016 Leica should do a special edition 'Red Flag 20' reproduction set - that would be a real conversation starter in China http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Red_Flag_20
mmx_2 Posted January 27, 2016 Share #3 Posted January 27, 2016 Leica should do a special edition 'Red Flag 20' reproduction set - that would be a real conversation starter in China http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Red_Flag_20 That would actually be really cool if they did! earleygallery Posted January 27, 2016 Share #4 Posted January 27, 2016 It actually looks OK, apart from at the back, when that panda logo makes it look like a Fisher Price toy camera. As someone on that link remarked, if it's a special edition for China why are the buttons still in English? Good point! Ultimately though another pointless special edition. These digital specials rarely sell out and then they appear on the 'used market' at much lower prices because collectors aren't stupid.

wattsy Posted January 27, 2016 Share #7 Posted January 27, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) A truly ugly and somewhat patronising special edition. I can't help but feel the bubble has truly burst for Leica and that these kind of editions are reminiscent of some of the depressingly tacky horrors put out by Leica during the fallow years of the 1990s. pop Posted January 27, 2016 Share #8 Posted January 27, 2016 Aren't those regional special editions not usually designed and ordered by the local distributors?
Manoleica Posted January 27, 2016 Share #9 Posted January 27, 2016 There's a special office @ Wetzlar, (SEO) no doubt a highly paid executive thinks up these "Specials" - some as said are a WOT" Others probably sell quite well! - who knows.. The recent M-P240 Safari Edition was financially a good deal.. I'm sure the Kravitz sold, how many and was the bottom line in Black? again who knows! - who cares.... ECohen Posted January 27, 2016 Share #10 Posted January 27, 2016 I asked this in another thread so please forgive me for being repetitive. Who buys them ? Do they use them? Or as part of a collection "mint in box" Are these good investments? How can they ever have value as useful tools and as collectibles they are old technology? To me and what do I know..... a camera is to be used, without concern as to value or fashion style. Its all about the tool and the files produced....and being fun to use. Or is this just what people buy when money has no value? Sure I am a little jealous......There is a couple Leica lenses I could use in my kit. My 19 daughter likes taking pictures with her cell phone and she thinks Pandas are cute. Perhaps this would be a nice gift for her? I wonder if she would prefer the 35 or 28mm lens? semi-ambivalent Posted January 27, 2016 Share #12 Posted January 27, 2016 It's silly to think these special editions are keeping Leica afloat so at this point in time I'm happy Leica can afford to keep dabbling in them. I take it as a good financial sign. I view the Kravitz Edition differently because it is supposed to be saying something about the user which is probably not authentic. But I don't really care, what with torn jeans and all these days... Just be grateful it's not called "Lei Lei", or "Bar Bar", or, something more outré. s-a

lct Posted January 27, 2016 Share #14 Posted January 27, 2016 Leica has always made special editions IIRC. Made for collectors essentially. Nohing new under the sun.

I totally agree with ECohen on the above. While the Panda M-P camera is not going to win any beauty contests, this visual hemorrhoid is hands down Leica's masterwork of ugliness: http://leicarumors.com/2015/05/05/leica-mp-gold-peoples-republic-of-china-60-years-commemorative-edition-camera.aspx/ [/VOMIT] Leica did get it right with one of their limited editions, though: http://leicarumors.com/2015/02/20/new-leica-m-p-typ-240-safari-kit-with-summicron-35mm-f2-lens-announced.aspx/
