harryjiang Posted January 14, 2016 Share #1 Posted January 14, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I picked up an M8 from ebay. Reliable buyer, but the camera shows banding from iso 640. It also shows a bright line at iso 1250 and above. I returned the camera, still waiting for refund. I wonder if leica still repairs M8 these days? I got the camera for a fair price and it is in great condition. It has 11000 clicks though. BTW, I am stilling looking forward to digitize my leica glasses. Summicron 35/2, eight element, elmar 50/3.5 and summaron 35/3.5... M9 is out of my reach, but A7+ adapter will be same price as what I paid for M8. Any recommendations? Will my old lens perform well on Sony?
Advertisement Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Hi harryjiang, Take a look here still parts for M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Sultan of Swing Posted January 14, 2016 Share #2 Posted January 14, 2016 Leica repairs all parts of the M8 but the display. I also had a bright (vertical) line with my M8. Costs were about 160€.

Good luck with the A7 if you buy one, pity you had to return the M8. They may look "sharper" on the Sony, and of course it's a full frame camera. A very different experience, but you've got live view and hence easy to focus any (?) lens. The lenses won't need UV/IR cut filter with the Sony, which are required on the M8 cheers Dave S

Summicron 35/2, eight element, elmar 50/3.5 and summaron 35/3.5.. - My Summicron 35mm 8 elements performs very well like it should with my Ms film and digital. - I have used it with a A7R, and nothing faulty even fully open, but needless to say that it's old design as you already know ... As long time M user, I am very upset with A7R's shutter noise and EVF that I had to live with. Arnaud
earleygallery Posted January 16, 2016 Share #8 Posted January 16, 2016 We now know that the LCD and also the cover glass cannot be replaced by Leica (as noted in another thread where someone has cracked the cover glass but his LCD still works). There may be other parts on the 'not available' list which so far haven't failed, we only know for sure when someone reports here that Leica can no longer repair X item. To the OP, why not just look for another M8 in better order?
