I entered the church today only to find an amazing group of musicians rehearsing. The scene and atmosphere was music to the ears but not to my camera, I couldn't find a shot until I noticed two men murmuring behind me. Seated on a bench, one of them was holding a cello anchored in the middle of the church's pathway. I couldn't resist the scene.

Hope you'll like it.

PS:  I wish I took the shot using f5.6 instead of 2.8, but it was too dark in there:-(

An adventurous composition.

Sure, 5.6 would have given more definition, but you are not doing too badly with 2.8. One can easily make out the orchestra getting ready.

The three simple elements of the hand, the bow and the instrument make a nice triangular element in contrast to all the ornamentation of the church (5.6 would have been great, but not possible).

And in a way, this is an homage to the famous Karsh portrait of Pablo Casals.

very interesting.  Just shows how compositions are EVERYWHERE to be found and limited only by one's creativity and eye (which is why it's such a great art form).  Your photo is a great demonstration of this.

Thank you Neil, also for mentioning Pablo Casals. I'm googling him right now :-)

I like it a lot.  I think the bokeh is just right and I do not think the orchestra is badly underexposed.

well noted prk: fixed that underexposed problem.

Rodrigue, I very much like the atmosphere, the tonality of B/W, the composition, and DOF! Everything work very well, IMHO!

glad to know Louis. Guess what, I find out that the guy was the main violoncellist, the most famous member of the orchestra. His name is Razvan Suma. His picture is sent to his facebook account:-)

I think that's great - and I like the bokeh. I can also see the darker elements meaning that the 5.6 wasn't possible

not possible unless I sue ISO 1600.

I actually like the limited DoF, plus the triangular pattern mentioned earlier works well !

Thanks Steve, I didn't want to leave that rehearsal whiteout at least one winner shot. It seems I got one:-)

Thanks you my friend. So glad you enjoyed it. The musician "which turned out to be the leader violoncellist  of the orchestra" was so cool ignoring completely the click loud clicks of the M9. At some point I got so close I was afraid he would hit me with the bow :-)

Quite lovely

Thanks Stuny.

I like this black and white....you have just enough of the cello showing to ID it....the wand, the hand....and against a nice bokeh....well taken. I like the 2.8... jim

Thanks Imans, glad you appreciate the shot.

Rodrigue,

a mastershot, your Image. It sums up the importance of this musician and stands for the general ambivalent position of a soloist and a tutti player in an orchestra. There for your "choice" of f-stop is just right to let the orchestra sink into the blurr.
