Thanks for showing this photo. I like the idea of it very much. But do you like the bokeh of the lens ?

So again, thank you for showing it, we can learn a lot from it about the apo50. Sorry.

I think the bokeh characteristics are different between the M and SL due to the thicker cover glass. I've noticed most lenses produce better bokeh on the M especially closer to the borders of the frame. It's a pity that Leica appears to be increasing cover glass thickness on the future M too.

I really love the bokeh of the 50 APO - but the thing about the lens is its not such what's blurred that is so great, it is how sharp what's in focus is. Love it with the M, but I am really enjoying using it with the SL, for the obvious fact that the EVF works like a dream.  I have a Noctilux at Leica NJ after having suffered a fall on concrete (it's ok, just has some dents on the shade) and I can't wait to be able to use it with the SL.  Great camera to use with these M lenses.

Yes, I agree, the SL is great for M glass. I like especially the WATE. I actually prefer to use it on the SL rather than the M. (Easier to get the result I am looking for). And on the SL it is a real zoom (ok, the range is not huge  ;-)    ;)

I'd like to see side by side images from both the M typ 240 and SL, with both the 50APO and a standard 'Cron 50, to understand the differences. I'm planning to get a new 50mm at some point (mostly for the M-P) and could use some examples to help me decide between these and a Noctilux.

I don ´t know why my image in Leicaforum isn ´t sharp???

Did you reduce the resolution according to the forum rules ?  If not, then automatic shrinking is applied, which is not beneficial for quality.

The Forum shrink    :)

For those who are interested in the 90-280mm lens for sports, here are some images from last weekend's Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament.

The very first image with my new SL and 24-90 Vario-Elmarit-SL, taken over the weekend at Salt Point on Mendocino Coast.

I think I'll keep it, and look forward to a long, steep and fruitful learning curve.

Congratulations John - enjoy it!  I'm thinking about it too; really liked it in Leica Mayfair, but want to rent it for a weekend to see if I really take to it. I love my M9P, but focussing is becoming more of a problem, and I am getting fed up with cutting people's feet off however carefully I've framed in the VF!  ;)

Ah. The solution to that is to move in closer and cut off their heads.  :o
