I went for a quick walk around the neighborhood on this chilly holiday. My eyes were drawn to patterns and contrasts in the shapes and colors of things.

All shot with the Leica SL fitted with Summicron-R 90mm f/2.

enjoy,

Santa brought me an 80/1.4 R to play with ........ always tempted by a 75/1.4 but with the borderline ability to RF focus consistently with this lens on an M I have baulked at the price......

However with the SL an 80/1.4 R ..... which is all but identical optically .... makes much more sense ...... and my virtually unmarked copy was barely 50% of the cost on fleabay of the 75/1.4.....

Super easy to use on the SL and nice results ......

I carried the 24-90 zoom for the first time on the walk today. Only took a few pictures .. had someone walking with me and was chatting too much .. but once at the restaurant I took a quick group snap to txt to my partner, who's on the road driving to Tijuana:

Leica SL + Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm f/2.8-4
ISO 3200 @ f/8 @ 1/30 @ 24mm
set for +1.5EV compensation
JPEG direct out of camera

I moved the JPEG out of the camera to my iPhone using the Leica SL app and just sent it as is.
The SL's ability to make a decent exposure like this with the miserable hotspot in the background .. @ ISO 3200 with + compensation too .. is impressive!

Still no snow? I wanna see if your SL is snowball proof.

Heading for the mountains in January, bringing SL and the M246. Should be a good winter (snow) test of the SL.

And yes, we got 5 cm snow a few days ago, but high temperatures and rain rule again, so no more winter along the coast...

I've been trying out the SL for a few days now. I have never been a fan of zoom lenses. They are big and they convolute my photography. But I have to say that the 24-90 is a great lens. It draws like a Leica, and even the flare is beautiful. Autofocus is fast and accurate. I was about to brush the camera aside and recommend it highly to "those who need that sort of thing."

Then I started playing with the M adapter. Boy, this camera really works with M glass. The viewfinder is so beautiful that viewing and focusing is a breeze. The magnification for critical focus on the thumb button is great and creates a whole different experience with M lenses that are tricky on the M cameras like the 75lux. Here's my obligatory contribution to the cat series.
