Thanks Tina. I'll have a look at that Facebook page. I'm curious as to who is still around.  :)

Your comment about the laser beam has sparked some thoughts, i.e. would it assist the user in focussing an M or R lens in really dark conditions, or is it only of benefit to autofocussing SL and perhaps S lenses? What does the beam do? Project a pattern of red or infra-red lines onto the subject? Or is it more of a broad beam of light? If lines, are they visible on the subject, or in the viewfinder? Can the beam be triggered manually or does it only work when the SL and native lens system detects low light? I guess it can be inactivated if desired.

Sorry for all the questions,  it's just that I was using my pre 0.95 Noctilux on my M9 last night, taking pics at my daughter's school presentation night. In difficult light I managed to get a few good pics - and some blurry ones. The OOF effects and subject isolation was worth the effort. I said to my wife once or twice, 'Geez, an SL would be good here, with this lens on it.' I didn't mention the new Nocti. Well, not until a bit later. From what I've seen that lens costs quite a bit more than an SL itself.  :o

Hi, Rick - I'm pretty sure the AF assist lamp, as they call it, is only for Leica's auto-focus lenses.  The manual says "The built-in auxiliary lamp extends the operating range of the AF system in poor lighting conditions.  If the function is switched on, the lamp will light up in such conditions when AF operation is started by pressing the shutter release button or the joystick.  The lamp has an operating range of aprrox. 1-3m/ 3-9 feet."  It looks to me like one beam of red light.  With the Noctilux (mine is the old one, too), I use the magnify feature to zoom in and focus accurately.  The viewfinder is so bright that focusing the Noctilux, even in dim light, is much easier.

Here are some R-lens shots for consideration.  This time the APO-Macro-Elmarit 100/2.8 (I identified it as a pre-APO 90 summicron to avoid a damaged lens profile that we hope will soon be fixed).  The autumn leaves in December are a result of no frosts to date.

The last is part of a plant diversity study.  Go figure.

These pictures are coded in Exif as a pre-asph 90, because that profile is quite mild and works well.  The default for the actual lens has a problem (which has been reported to the SL team).
