Questions About The Leica SL? Please Tell!

I've got questions for Leica (or anyone else who knows the answer): what is the rated life of the small backup battery that is built into the body? What technology is it based on? I presume the camera needs to be sent in for service to replace it when it dies.

If you mean how long does it hold the date and time current when the Li-Ion battery dies, the answer is given in the manual as 3 months, a typical value.  For when is a replacement needed because the backup won't charge up from the Li-Ion, I don't know, but M8s are still running around providing good service, and those appeared in 2006 or so.

I don't think anyone outside of Leica knows for sure, but I imagine it's actually some sort of capacitor. They tend to last a very long time with no problems at all, often the life of the device.

Any thoughts/plans for higher quality TL Zoom's under the FF size. APSC/X lenses to allow for fast but compact zoom. (Like the Fuji's 50-140XF 2.8 zoom or as used by Canon 7d professional's). Given the 10MP APSC limitation, perhaps APSX. Leading to a Hybred or FF Primes and APSX Zooms. Not sure what others thoughts are.

  1. Is ISO 50 native?
  2. Will Leica release an off shoe chord or remote trigger for their up coming SF64 flash?
  3. Why did they choose not to make both SD slots UHS II compatible?
  4. Lens roadmap

Many thanks

The Nikon off shoe cord is compatible.

Don't be tempted like I did at first to get a cheap clone off Fleabay. They don't fit well or work properly. I then got a S/H Nikon SC-28, which is beautifully made and works perfectly with the SF-58 and SF-24, including TTL/GNC.

Would it be - and if yes, how - be possible to use ( manual ) Nikkor lenses ( or ZF.2 Zeiss lenses ) on Leica SL?

What kind of adapter is to be used for that purpose? What functionality is preserved? What is missing?

Anyone tried that?

Tnx / Alex

If you already have an Leica M to T adaptor, use it with any Nikon to Leica M adaptor … use with aperture priority.

Any lens which will adapt to a Leica M will adapt to the SL.

And Novoflex make 13 Leica SL/T adaptors for most legacy lenses including Nikon F.

https://www.novoflex.com/en/products/adapters/    … lots of combinations are possible … select Leica SL / Leica T from the 'Choose Camera' options … then click on the 'Choose Lens' options to see all the available lens fittings.

Using a LEM-NIK + M-T combination has some advantage compared to using a single T-NIK: The Novoflex LEM-NIK can be hand coded as an R-M adapter giving the possibility to select a suitable focal length from the R lens list to be recorded in the exif and also used to determine the min shutter speed in Auto-ISO.

Yes, I don't see any other way to use properly Nikon lenses on the SL.

You need the Leica M-T adapter on the SL.

It is currently the only adapter able to communicate with the SL electronics.

Thanks for your answers. No - I do not have Leica M to T adapter. That's the adapter to be used when M lens is put on SL - right?
I have just tested that in LeicaStore Munich ( tnx guys - it was very kind of you! ) and it worked as charm B)

What functionality is missing when using Nikkor / ZF,2 lens instead of M lens on SL? I can see Novoflex is offering a single LET/NIK adapter? But you suggest it is better to use 2 adapters instead?

And why I have to use it with aperture priority - isn't is possible to use full manual mode?

Excuse my ignorance, I have just never played with those adapters before.

As I understand it (non-SL user :( ) the LET/NIK adapter won't allow you to select a focal length.  Manual mode should be fine.
