All these 'hope for' comments … when Leica have made no promises … Then if nothing transpires more criticisms and suggestions from the armchair camera designers - it's a bit daft especially as any new models and changes to existing take months to implement … but some of the comments here seem to suggest / think can be done overnight - and that Leica will take notice .  Better to be patient and wait and see.

my thinking is we've had two lovely new M cameras already this year alone. how likely is it there will be another one squeezed out by PK2016?. best guess & more likely a new Leica medium format system camera, similar in size & specification to the HD1 but less boxy :)

Ha! About four million posts on one subject suggests that telling people to be patient and wait and see because we can't do anything about it will be about as successful as asking for world peace because it would be nice.

I support the idea but won't be buying shares in it.

This thread is devoted to an imaginary camera. Nothing wrong with that, just don’t expect substance.

Sure  … but can also 'imagine' the inevitable naysayings posted when crystal ball seeings do not materialise when Photokina announcements made.

My next M is an M9 with replacement corrosion-proof ccd sensor.

Not a bad idea but I would hope for an improved shutter, I really would not like to go back to the clanking and whirring of the M9 shutter.

I actually have a never used Focomat IIc. Never set it up. I need to one of these days. I hear it's great.

It is great! I use it for 6x10cm roll film. I recommend a late Focotar or Rodenstock lens.

Most people here want to use their M lens in a compact body having a Q / SL type sensor. I hope to see a new M or a new Q sized body with M mount having built-in EVF solution.

Not me. I don't like the colors produced by the Q and SL. They're very cartoonish. I hope Leica stays with the color output of current M.

Well... it just goes to show how different we all are.

I really like the output from the Q and SL... obviously you can play around with the colour output, but there is something indefinable about the output I have seen on both the SL and the Q forums that I really like. I think its probably the most natural, almost 3D results that many have managed to produce.

Its not really my 'style' to be this clean and clear, and I probably do 90% black and white prints for my own photography, but as a starting point, both seem exceptionally clean and well balanced colour wise, much more so than I am getting from my M-P currently.

No doubt I could do better if my colour PP skills were of the standard I would like, but I see a very consistent result from both the SL and the Q which makes me think the captured output is a level above the older M240 sensor.

For me anyway...

If so, the people posting 'produced' and exported it that way....and/or the monitors on either or both ends were not calibrated.

I made prints when I tested the SL for a day, and the colors were excellent (compared to my M240), and that was without developing any custom profiles or adjusting import settings.  Of course extended testing would be needed to draw deeper conclusions.

Even then, I'm able to adjust in PP in many ways, vary paper selection (using custom paper profiles), change display lighting, etc.

Too many variables involved in the overall workflow to draw such a narrow conclusion IMO.

One of those variables (the main one?) being raw converters as well as camera and lens profiles in the latters. Just convert your raw files in linear mode and the cartoonish effect coming from excessive contrast and/or color saturation will vanish by itself most probably.

I'm ignorant of the meaning / method : 'convert your raw files in linear mode' … could you please explain or provide a link which gives an explanation? I'm colour blind too so can experience problems during RAW / DNG images' conversions.

I refer to the linear response curve of C1 and LR among other raw converters i guess. See couple of links below. I use it generally in C1 for M240 files because i don't like the yellowish rendition of the default curve there and i used to do the same in LR to avoid its ugly (to me) reddish cast and color saturation. Matter of tastes of course.

I only tried ACR on SL files. The Adobe standard didn't produce pleasing results to my eyes, and it never does with any camera. The embedded profile is what I normally use with Leica cameras. I liked the results many times, but under some lighting conditions, colors looked really off, cartoonish as I described them, with overboard blues, and funky oranges and pinks. The colors can be calibrated if someone has the patience and inclination to do so. I much prefer the default output of the M, but that is subjective and some might feel the opposite.
