happy Posted October 20, 2015 Share #1  Posted October 20, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all,  I received a 40mm Summicron-C which is in good shape except for the fact that the lens cam is off. Has anyone had any experience fixing this issue? What should I expect to pay if I send it to Leica? I got a good deal on the lens so if it's reasonable I could imagine sending it in with my M8 since it has a dead pixel that needs to be mapped.  I've asked a local repairman and he wasn't comfortable doing this repair. Said it might run a few hundred, which is not worth it for me.  Thanks
Advertisement Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Hi happy, Take a look here Leica 40mm Summicron-C focus cam adjustment cost?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted October 21, 2015 Share #2 Â Posted October 21, 2015 Depends on what you mean by the lens cam is off. If you're in the US i would ask DAG.
happy Posted October 21, 2015 Author Share #3  Posted October 21, 2015 When using the lens, the split image doesn't line up at infinity (they move ever so slightly PAST each other).  I've tested with other lenses which were dead-on when focusing on far-off objects.  The lens also front-focuses slightly. I've tested with a target and it seems to be about an inch or two off at minimum focus distance.  I'll get a second opinion on Thursday but the camera RF seems okay and if I tune it to this lens, then other lenses wont' focus correctly.
lct Posted October 21, 2015 Share #4 Â Posted October 21, 2015 Your lens needs simply a good CLA i suspect. I would ask DAG for a quote.
Tony Chan Posted December 19, 2015 Share #5 Â Posted December 19, 2015 Hi Happy, Â Did you send your lens for adjustment? Â Can you tell us the result? Either the lens cam is off or the M8's rangefinder. Â Best regards,
gyoung Posted December 19, 2015 Share #6 Â Posted December 19, 2015 But its the Summicron c, for the CL, and the cam will never be absolutely right on an M. Â Gerry

Has nothing to do with the lenses.
satijntje Posted December 19, 2015 Share #8 Â Posted December 19, 2015 Jip is right. My 40-cron is spot-on on my M8! John
gyoung Posted December 19, 2015 Share #9 Â Posted December 19, 2015 Well the official line was that the cams are ground differently and the 2 cl lenses would not be accurate on M cameras. Â Gerry
lct Posted December 19, 2015 Share #10 Â Posted December 19, 2015 The cams are indeed different but CL lenses are accurate enough on M cameras, at least mine since the eighties.
TomB_tx Posted December 20, 2015 Share #11 Â Posted December 20, 2015 Right - Leica M cams have a cam surface basically parallel to the flange that "threads" out with a thread pitch matching the movement needed for a 50(.19 or so) lens. (The actual cam face may be ground a bit to match actual fl of the individual lens.) The CL cams are ramped, so the cam surface is not parallel to the flange. This can make a slight difference depending on the adjustments made on the M roller linkage, however, both my 40 and 90 focus fine on my M9 and film Ms. The Minolta lenses for the later CLE have cams made like M lenses, while Minolta lenses made for their version of the CL have ramped cams like the Leica CL lenses. piblondin Posted December 20, 2015 Share #12  Posted December 20, 2015 My 40mm focused accurately on my M8. However, the split-image never reached alignment at infinity. It hasn't caused me any problems, though!
