Leica 40mm Summicron-C focus cam adjustment cost?

Hi all,

I received a 40mm Summicron-C which is in good shape except for the fact that the lens cam is off. Has anyone had any experience fixing this issue? What should I expect to pay if I send it to Leica? I got a good deal on the lens so if it's reasonable I could imagine sending it in with my M8 since it has a dead pixel that needs to be mapped.

I've asked a local repairman and he wasn't comfortable doing this repair. Said it might run a few hundred, which is not worth it for me.

Thanks

When using the lens, the split image doesn't line up at infinity (they move ever so slightly PAST each other).

I've tested with other lenses which were dead-on when focusing on far-off objects.

The lens also front-focuses slightly. I've tested with a target and it seems to be about an inch or two off at minimum focus distance.

I'll get a second opinion on Thursday but the camera RF seems okay and if I tune it to this lens, then other lenses wont' focus correctly.

But its the Summicron c, for the CL, and the cam will never be absolutely right on an M.

Not true, the lenses are manufactured exactly the same, just the rangefinder base of the CL is smaller... Has nothing to do with the lenses.

Right - Leica M cams have a cam surface basically parallel to the flange that "threads" out with a thread pitch matching the movement needed for a 50(.19 or so) lens. (The actual cam face may be ground a bit to match actual fl of the individual lens.)

The CL cams are ramped, so the cam surface is not parallel to the flange. This can make a slight difference depending on the adjustments made on the M roller linkage, however, both my 40 and 90 focus fine on my M9 and film Ms.

The Minolta lenses for the later CLE have cams made like M lenses, while Minolta lenses made for their version of the CL have ramped cams like the Leica CL lenses.
