sandro Posted October 15, 2015 Share #1 Posted October 15, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Since I use the Visoflex II and III regularly, I wonder if it is possible to replace the ground glass with another one, which helps to focus better. I have the focusing slide of a Reprovit II, which has a nice looking focusing screen. Would it be possible to use this one as a replacement for the original one in a Visoflex II or III, without too much trouble? I would ask Will van Manen to do it, but only if it is worth the trouble. I was looking for things I might be able to use of that Reprovit part and thought of this. Thanks for any ideas, Lex
Advertisement Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Hi sandro, Take a look here Focusing screen Visoflex & Reprovit . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted October 15, 2015 Share #2 Posted October 15, 2015 I don't know how is the Reprovit screen, but I remember very well that the question about Viso II/III screens was discussed in depth years ago... at "M8 times" when some of us wished to have the M8 cropped image on the Viso screen... I seem to remember that some of us (Jaap ?) used with satisfaction the screens of a Leica reflex (don't remember the model... of course is mainly a matter of thickness, and shape at angles too...) If you search with patience, there are surely old threads about, with examples and experiences on different screens... they were years like 2007 max 2008... (personally, I didn' change mine : simply draw decently the M8 framing on the original screen)
fotoism Posted October 16, 2015 Share #3 Posted October 16, 2015 I have been playing with my visoflex II and III and micro III a bit and it is entirely possible to replace your focusing screen by yourself, or by your trusted camera technician. The fixed focusing screens are approximately 37.5 x 25.5 x 2 mm. If you can find another screen of the same size (or trim it to that size) you can replace it and see if you get better results. One of the screens I used is the 14304 screen for Leicaflex R. I also tried other screens with split image/microprism collar - not too happy with them especially in lower light conditions. Plain or matte suits me better. YMMV.
sandro Posted October 16, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted October 16, 2015 Luigi, Phil, I am well aware of earlier discussions in the forum of the possibilities to replace a focusing screen in the Visoflex II and III. I was Lucky that a forum member had a new focusing screen for the Vido III for me, with which Will van Manen replaced the old one. My question now is if someone perhaps knows if the ground glass of the Reprovit IIA has extactly the same measurments and thickness and details as the screens in the Visoflex, so that replacement would be easy. fotoism Posted October 16, 2015 Share #5 Posted October 16, 2015 I don't have the Reprovit but aren't those focusing screens circular instead of rectangular?
sandro Posted October 22, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted October 22, 2015 Phil, no the focusing screen of the Reprovit is rectangular as well, but it is fitted in a circular element of the sliding stage. Lex
