Hi all.

So looks like there is no end to my bad luck having to send lenses to Leica for repair or adjustment. This time my Super-Elmar-M 21mm has developed a wobble in front part of the lens. I guess I am not the only one who had this issue with the Super-Elmar-M in the past. But I would need some advice.

  • How long usually fixing wobble issues has taken at Wetzlar?

  • I found this video: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZL3WojYoXQ). Is same kind of procedure possible to do by yourself for the SEM 21? I would just hate to wait again 3-4 months for a lens repair, because it is my favourite lens and I use it almost every week...

  • Is it covered by warranty? Lens was bought less than 2 years ago. If you have experience on having to pay for fixing wobble issues how much has it usually cost?

I know I should give them (Leica Service) a call go get answers for my questions. But I still would like to know what I am dealing with. Thank you very much for answers :)

I think you were unlucky. Haven't heard of that problem before with the 21 SEM.

Not that it excuses the fault.

There's a thread somewhere here about this. A search would find it. My brand new 21SEM developed it. Went to New Jersey under warrantee and back in less than two weeks as I recall. Great service; inexcusable reason.

  • 8 years later...

Saw a very nice and mint used super elmar 21 in a shop in Italy. Better price than in NL but it also has the wobble. Now wondering if it is worth the hassle. Anyone else has recent experiences with wobbly fronts?

Poli, if it is the typical SEM-wobble, it is easy and simple to correct. I have been there. Wetzlar ( two years ago ) looked after it for free.
