wilfredo Posted November 19, 2014 Share #1 Posted November 19, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) My beautiful silver 50mm Summilux ASPH has developed what I can only describe as a slight jiggle when focusing. Something seems to be loose. I've never encountered an issue like this on any lens, and I'm wondering if I need to send it to Leica for an adjustment? Any thoughts? What will an adjustment cost? It is no longer covered by warranty.
Advertisement Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here Summilux Jiggle. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
amnesiac Posted November 19, 2014 Share #2 Posted November 19, 2014 Funny, I also developed the 50mm Summilux Jiggle.. However, mine is the pre asph version. My lens seems to perform fine despite the jiggle but I'm also interested in what it could be.
wda Posted November 19, 2014 Share #3 Posted November 19, 2014 Wilfredo, has the jiggle affected your lens's performance? Or are you on the point of selling it? If both answers are negative, consider why you should spend money on an investigation and have the lens out of use for some unknown period. If the jiggle niggles you, that is a different matter. Jennifer Posted November 19, 2014 Share #4 Posted November 19, 2014 By jiggle do you mean that there's play between front and rear elements? If it is, I had a similar problem with my 21 SEM. It didn't seem to compromise the lens' performance, but it was irritating. Apparently, it's an easy to fix if you have the know how and the right tool. Leica did it for me in less than 4 weeks, which is obscene haste for a Leica factory repair. However, I can't tell you what it cost, as it was warranty job. wilfredo Posted November 19, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted November 19, 2014 I haven't noticed any compromise in IQ. I will do some testing. It's more of an irritation. An expensive piece of equipment with a reputation for workmanship should work with no hassles for years. BTW, I don't abuse my gear. For now, I will live with it, if it gets worse I will have to take a drive over to Allendale, N.J.

james.liam Posted November 19, 2014 Share #8 Posted November 19, 2014 I doubt I have the right tool, and I would not trust myself taking the lens apart. But I'm curious about the fix? You're in NYC so why don't you bring it by the Leicastore-SoHo/Kurland Photo and let them take a look before it goes off to New Jersey. Great bunch of guys. Did you purchase it new? Jennifer Posted November 19, 2014 Share #10 Posted November 19, 2014 I doubt I have the right tool, and I would not trust myself taking the lens apart. But I'm curious about the fix? I've seen the"jiggle" fixed on a online video. Took about 10 minutes, but the lens needed part dismantling before some sort of a proprietary tool was applied. Unless you're super confident I think this is one to leave to the experts.
