You said you were a school teacher before...

I am both. When I shoot for the school, I charge if they want specific photos. I invoice them. This was ANZAC day and there were a few shots we had to get because it was our school's turn to have a student deliver a speech to the town.

Some events, I dont invoice the school, like events that need to be captured on school grounds etc for the news letter and all that.

EDIT: To clarify, I run a business during breaks and summer, and use it to train kids at the school on how to use the school gear so they can do the school photography, but when it comes to events, like the ANZAC day or the school formal (prom) or graduations, I will invoice if they ask me to do so. I was also a full time professional in the 5 years before I was a teacher 6 years ago, so I have been making money with a camera for 11 years (shooting amaturely 14 years before that) I hope this clears things up.

Free shipping if you respond within next 5 minutes.

But have they fixed all the remaining warning messages in the pipeline, to be displayed at 3 month intervals:

"Get paranoid about your battery spontaneously ingniting"

"Look for hidden signs of sensor corrosion"

"Have you checked your lugs recently?"

and finally:

"Be afraid, be very afraid"

my question is how long will the battery last (240) M-P before it needs replacement?  Also, does Leica support older models that are no longer made-  are the batteries for these cameras no longer available?

M8 batteries are still available. I am still using my original M8 batteries from 2006 and 2007. Capacity has dropped to about 80%. In contrast, my DMR batteries were nearly dead. So I had three of them refurbished.

But are they fresh stock, or have the 'new' batteries been sitting on the shelf since 2006, or whenever production ceased (2010?).

Approximately 1000 charge/discharge cycles under normal use, ie no abuse in terms of deep discharge, and of course being a chemical process, rates of reaction are temperature dependant, so use within the prescribed parameters.

You ask a very good question about obsolescence - I have no idea but I would like to know.
