douglas fry Posted October 8, 2015 Share #6 Posted October 8, 2015 Ouch, double ouch...I thought for a moment it was just needing a new baseplate, but then I noticed the tripod socket was missing :-( Insured? I think the camera is a write off, I can't imagine what has happened to the lens alignment..
Deliberate1 Posted October 8, 2015 Share #7 Posted October 8, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) My condolences. I can not imagine (or perhaps I can) what went through your mind as your beloved Leica hit hard. All of that said, you have the rare post-mortem opportunity to peak behind the technical curtain to see what makes it tick.
Manolo Laguillo Posted October 8, 2015 Share #8 Posted October 8, 2015 Can´t find the words... My condolences! Heavy wind can be dangerous not only for the equipment, but even for us, photographers.
flyalf Posted October 8, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted October 8, 2015 Thanks for support,I'm now in contact with customer service to know if camera can be repaired. Everything seems to be working, and lens mount doesn't seem to be affected. Haven't dared trying to make an exposure since "inner" parts are exposed. Please do continue to contribute with opinions if this can be salvaged. Thanks!
pico Posted October 8, 2015 Share #10 Posted October 8, 2015 Everything seems to be working, I would not be surprised if it is still good, except for the exposure. When I wrecked my M9, it still worked even though I could not tell because the rear screen was demolished. Best of luck to you!

Herr Barnack Posted October 8, 2015 Share #13 Posted October 8, 2015 That looks awful - every photographer's worst nightmare in terms of camera damage. Hopefully it will be repairable - let us know what the repair folk at Wetzlar have to say once they evaluate it.

Adam Posted October 8, 2015 Share #15 Posted October 8, 2015 Sorry to see this. But I would not be surprised if it turns out it can be fixed and before you know it you are shooting great pics with it again. From the picture it looks like the case did its job and absorbed most of the impact. That is what its for. I am Keeping my fingers crossed. I would just keep it in a sealed dry ziplock until you send it for repairs. At this point, exposure is your enemy. Good luck!
AlanJW Posted October 8, 2015 Share #16 Posted October 8, 2015 Sorry about this, but if the innards seem working, it is probably repairable with a new shell.
mmradman Posted October 8, 2015 Share #17 Posted October 8, 2015 I feel yor pain, what I see makes me mistrust new tripod bush, from your picture it appears it simply detached from the polycarbonate or plastic base. Do you still have tripod bush, it would be interesting to see the underside and understand how it attaches to the body. Despite tough external appearance you wouldn't expect it to come off the body Strond wind. Hevay tripod tople and fall. M takes the full brunt. Solid swiss Arcam quick plate. lleo Posted October 8, 2015 Share #18 Posted October 8, 2015 Holy s***t. But it seems only the baseplate is broken, you'll be able to repair it and bring it back to the usual use. In other words, taking wonderful pics
Peter Kilmister Posted October 8, 2015 Share #19 Posted October 8, 2015 Had the case been hard plastic it would probably have shattered into loads of splinters. Brass is more durable than hard plastic. I really hope you will find that the camera can be rebuilt. Meanwhile Adam makes a very good point about keeping everything as dry as possible. Rice (in its dry seed form) is one of the best desiccants available. Wrap the camera in a dry micro fibre cloth, surround it with rice and place in a zip-up plastic bag. Then ship it to Leica. Good luck.
