It's all Brass Monkeys..  Quite right. Leica considered Zinc to be OK for some time and, apart from some cosmetic problems early on, this has proved to be true. I have a M6TTL with Zinc top plate and a M7 with Brass top plate. If I put my, say 28mm, lens on each camera the results will be exactly the same. I think it all comes down to the fact that we are all camera snobs  .
