Anyone on the edge waiting for a firmware update before buying? I was really hot to buy, but due to availability issues it has given pause and hoping they resolve a few issues before buying. I may purchase anyway, but will for sure with a few updates.

Updating firmware when it is released is a simple procedure that owners  do.  Unless an owner decides not to perform the update when released, every Q will ultimately have the same features and perform in the same way.   Even an update today may be followed by another in the future.  Features included in firmware updates may or may not address every recorded complaint or dissatisfaction.    It doesn't matter if you have taken delivery of the very first or the last Q off the production line.  You will be able to bring it to its most up-to-date version.     Waiting only denies you the the ability to use the camera now!  Get yourself registered for a purchase.  Summer delays will soon end as the factories return to normal production.

I'm definitely waiting for a firmware update before buying.

I spent a whole afternoon shooting the Q, and although it's superb in many respects, there were a couple of critical failings in the interface, especially related to AF modes, which killed it for me.  If they don't fix those (for me) crucial flaws, then no purchase.  Until it works the way I want, it isn't a camera I want ... and it's a risk buying in the 'hope' that a future firmware update will fix those issues.

I have other cameras in the meantime.

waiting isn't a bad option, even if you place an order now I guess you'd not have one in hand for maybe a couple of months.

If I hadn't a Q already at this point and with what I know now after having used the camera for a month I would probably wait out purchase until I learned what the next firmware offers on the Q will be. Know what in fact has been "fixed" and whether or not Leica has listened to their "early adopters" or not.

I would not have bought one if I'd known beforehand how annoyed I'd be with the present LCD / EVF options and settings, that I'd definitely would wait out.

Also a slightly later Q may have a "fixed" diopter adjustment wheel, that would be good to have that annoyance sorted.

Having gotten that off my chest, this is still a wonderful camera, it just needs to mature a bit.

No criticism here. Just curious on which specific AF modes issues you are wanting which a crucial flaws to you? TIA

These were the things that bothered me:

- No way to quickly change AF modes (you have to menu dive)

- No way to move the focus point manually when looking through the EVF in touch-focus-release mode: it should be possible to move the focus point with the arrow keys while looking through the EVF, or it should be possible to set centre focus for the EVF and touch-based focus point when using the touch screen.  That latter combination (centre focus point on EVF with touch-focus-release on the LCD) would probably be my default mode ... but it doesn't exist.

- lag in the EVF turning on when you lift the camera to your eye

Like I said, it's a great camera, such a shame (for me) to have such quick AF, tied to such a clunky AF-mode interface.  If the options are there, they should be flawlessly and effortlessly usable, IMO on a 4K machine.  I know that sounds picky, but, well, it stopped me getting the shots I wanted a couple of times, and I don't like cameras that get in the way of photography.

I can tell you that in all honesty there are no firmware issues that would stop me buying it again. Yes there are some quite minor niggles but nothing that really gets in the way of the superb performance of this camera. Buy it, enjoy it and firmware will come

I too feel that there are some things that need to be sorted in a firmware update but I would say that this camera has actually let me get the shot more a lot more than it has ever not let me get the shot. I feel it can do things that i haven't been able to do with any other digital camera and very quickly too. So on the whole I would say the +s way outweigh the -s

what issues?

If your waiting for the perfect camera...you are in for a long wait. In the mean time I'm really enjoying one of the best digital cameras ever made. #snoozeyoulose

I'm hoping for exposures longer than 30 seconds and exposure bracketing of at least 5 shots. I really dislike work arounds and like to keep things simple. With those simple additions, it would be the perfect camera for me...

I agree, I'm not knocking it ... it's a great camera, and if they do fix some of the main issues in a firmware update it'll be nothing short of stellar.  It's just personal preference.  And at that price, I'm afraid I want as near as possible to perfection in terms of usability ... considering that in IQ terms it's not really much better than my 600 EUR DP2 Merrill.
