ShivaYash Posted August 9, 2015 Share #1 Â Posted August 9, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can someone please remind me, is this an issue? I really want a IV 50mmf2 - I like the focus tab. Am seeing a good example made in Canada. Any issues to look out for if buying something not made in the motherland? Advertisement Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Hi ShivaYash, Take a look here Canada v Germany. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted August 9, 2015 Share #2 Â Posted August 9, 2015 The only difference is the price paid by collectors.
ShivaYash Posted August 9, 2015 Author Share #3 Â Posted August 9, 2015 I thought so! Although I've heard about focusing not being as smooth but not sure if this is through abuse.

Am seeing a good example made in Canada. Any issues to look out for if buying something not made in the motherland? When bought my M240, I thought that my excellent Summicron (1963...) Â was a bit aged in comparision with the camera and found a Canadian V4 with tab (1980 - "s/n on side") : after 2,5 years it is has revealed to be one of my best buy : nothing less than the old one in term of rendering, tab is even better than the oldstyle knob, 0,7 m vs. 1 m is sometime useful, hood is better ... only complain is that is black... Shall trial and revert.
pico Posted August 9, 2015 Share #8 Â Posted August 9, 2015 OR can Leica be minded to 'add' a focusing tab to a v5? Highly unlikely... Â Leica might not add a tab, but S.K. Grimes can make a focusing assist lever. I have one on a 50mm Summicron. It works better than the Leica tab.
ShivaYash Posted August 9, 2015 Author Share #9 Â Posted August 9, 2015 Yes. TAAB also do one.
pico Posted August 9, 2015 Share #10 Â Posted August 9, 2015 Yes. TAAB also do one. Â For the 50mm Summicron which has a 46mm diameter barrel you would want the TAAB Mini.
bocaburger Posted August 9, 2015 Share #11  Posted August 9, 2015 The earliest Canada-made 11819's have a convex, ribbed tab. I had one once, found it slightly less positive than the later concave version which I have on the Canada version I currently own. uhoh7 Posted August 9, 2015 Share #13  Posted August 9, 2015 My tabbed v4 on left:  Aluxy by unoh7, on Flickr  I reckon it's worth about 1K USD. But it's tiny, light, sharp and both M9 and A7.mod love the thing. I do lust for a Lux asph, but I would not sell this one to fund it.  It's old but sharp:  Budding Circ by unoh7, on Flickr  OMG! I was sure the thing was Canadian, but no, Germany! OK, now I want 1500 LOL
farnz Posted August 9, 2015 Share #14 Â Posted August 9, 2015 Ha! Â OR can Leica be minded to 'add' a focusing tab to a v5? Highly unlikely... You can simply add your own if you wish. Â I recently sold a v5 50 Summicron with a tab I attached myself using thin double-sided tape that's widely used in the motor industry. Â The vendor at this link may well have been who I bought the tab from originally, I can't remember. Â (For full disclosure I have no link with this vendor or his products.) Â Pete. Herr Barnack Posted August 10, 2015 Share #17  Posted August 10, 2015 Yes. TAAB also do one. Here is their website - http://www.lenstab.com/  I ordered one that will fit my Noctilux f/1.0; it is allegedly on its way, hopefully to arrive sometime this week. I will report on how it fits and works when it arrives and I have had a chance to try it out. ShivaYash Posted August 11, 2015 Author Share #18  Posted August 11, 2015 So today I picked up a MINT 2009 50mm f2 Summicron in black with 6-bit coding for £600. Rather pleased and the results are pretty good. Strange having a new lens after so many years, but the 50mm is a great angle for what I am shooting at the moment, portraits of my family. ShivaYash Posted August 12, 2015 Author Share #20 Â Posted August 12, 2015 Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll just try and get use to the lens without any focusing aid.
