Advertisement Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Hi b18221964, Take a look here Getting the Leica M-P. Anything I should be aware of?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Loren Posted July 11, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 11, 2015 Hello, I am getting my M-P on Monday. What should I look out for when testing the camera? I assume it is used, so I just ran mine through its paces and made sure everything worked as advertised. You might want to take a shot of the sky at the highest aperture (f/16 or higher) to check for dust on the sensor. Other than that, look out for fun. It's in there somewhere. ;-)
jdlaing Posted July 11, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 11, 2015 Yes! You should beware of a chemical compound that is either in the body covering or the chrome plating or the black paint. When contacted by human skin it sends an enzyme thru the system that gives you the urge to buy lenses. Be careful.
b18221964 Posted July 11, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted July 11, 2015 Thanks. I am getting a new one.
Loren Posted July 11, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 11, 2015 Thanks. I am getting a new one. That's worse as there will be no oxidation on the surface to protect you from the buying spree.
A Almulla Posted July 11, 2015 Share #6 Posted July 11, 2015 Although I would expect it to work well, consider clicking it on each shutter speed. Would you need a second battery since you are there at the shop?
Herr Barnack Posted July 11, 2015 Share #7 Posted July 11, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Since you are getting a new M-P, there is not much to worry about. Your chances of getting a defective M-P that is new in the box are about as remote as your chances of being struck by lightning on the way to your Leica dealer. I would request an M-P that is in the box with an unbroken seal that was applied at Wetzlar rather than a demo model that people have been meddling with (yes, I am OCD about my Leica gear that costs thousands of dollars per piece of kit). Mornnb Posted July 11, 2015 Share #8 Posted July 11, 2015 Check the calibration of the Rangefinder, see if you can accurately focus a Summilux lens wide open. picboy Posted July 11, 2015 Share #9 Posted July 11, 2015 if you buy a case or half case make sure it fits around the frame preview lever. the older M240 half cases from Leica don't work well since they cover it (the regular M240 doesn't have the frame preview lever). Peter Kilmister Posted July 12, 2015 Share #10 Posted July 12, 2015 You will love your M-P 240. Enjoy it. The great thing is that nobody will know what camera you will be using unless they ask you. Most people don't ask. Stealth at last.

Her reply:- well why wait just order it"" Guys don't forget the internet, if wifey does not see the receipt, don't assume she does not kno' the cost.. I had no problem with my wife accepting that her love of playing golf cost a fortune not only in membership fees, but also visitor fees to other clubs, lessons, equipment, batteries, balls, and physiotherapy afterwards. So a camera for my hobby was nothing in comparison. However, she did make a good point ... make sure you get everything fully insured. Like any sensible husband I did what I was told. Happiness reigns.
