Rick Posted July 16, 2015 Author Share #63 Posted July 16, 2015 I won't wait that long. Will get A7R II in early August. :-) Just another oversized (camera and lens) 11-bit toy with limited lens selection. Elegance is not found in toy Sony mirrorless systems. Why are you still here? Just to troll us?
sootyvrs Posted July 16, 2015 Share #64 Posted July 16, 2015 Not sure if posted before but I read this article about the rumoured next generation M camera http://lavidaleica.com/content/future-leica-m-cometh

pico Posted July 16, 2015 Share #67 Posted July 16, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) How about a full frame Fovean sensor? Then people could complain about how its resolution is beyond Leica's lenses.
lct Posted July 17, 2015 Share #68 Posted July 17, 2015 How about a full frame Fovean sensor? Then people could complain about how its resolution is beyond Leica's lenses. +1. Foveon lover here (DP2M). Hopeless above 400 iso though.

keithlaban.co.uk Posted July 17, 2015 Share #72 Posted July 17, 2015 I would imagine there will be an updated M on offer later in the year. Some time ago I made a short list of the features I'd like to see upgraded. (1) An improved and higher megapixel sensor. (2) A much higher resolution external EVF. (3) Scrollable magnified liveview. If the new M has all of these upgrades I'll buy, but if any one (or more) is missing I'll pass.
bocaburger Posted July 17, 2015 Share #73 Posted July 17, 2015 If the new model were to be the size and weight of a film M (other than the M5) I would be interested. If, further, it dispensed with the LED frame lines that would add to my interest. Otherwise I really can't find a single thing about the M240 I wish were different or improved. Does anyone think the next M will still be 24MP, but come with the Q sensor?
gpwhite Posted July 17, 2015 Share #75 Posted July 17, 2015 Does anyone think the next M will still be 24MP, but come with the Q sensor? I would expect so because the Q sensor seems to give cleaner, even more saturated images. Power consumption is supposedly lower too. I am basing my comment on the few images posted on line wherein the Q lens corrections have been turned off, and the qualities other than spatial distortion appear just as high as the Q files I get in ACR. IkarusJohn Posted July 17, 2015 Share #76 Posted July 17, 2015 Does anyone think the next M will still be 24MP, but come with the Q sensor? Interesting question. The Q is optimised for the 28mm fixed lense, whereas the CMOSIS sensor was designed to take wides. I don't expect the next M to have more that 24MP - the new S(007) still has "only" 37; why would the M camera need the same MP as the medium format camera? lct Posted July 17, 2015 Share #77 Posted July 17, 2015 [...] why would the M camera need the same MP as the medium format camera? Because the S007 will have more MPs itself i suspect but i may be wrong.
IkarusJohn Posted July 17, 2015 Share #78 Posted July 17, 2015 Because the S007 will have more MPs itself i suspect but i may be wrong. Couldn't immediately find it on the Leica website, but B&H lists it as a 37.5MP sensor.

Leica commissioned the M sensor maybe five years ago, introduced it three years ago. I think it doubtful that they would introduce something radically different now, my guess is that they will concentrate on the peripherals this iteration.
