Do you pee on all parades or just those which concern the scared practice of photography?

"I cannot see how or what I own can or will improve your....." Read some military history and you might learn that curoisity has enhanced many an army and influenced many a battle. Not to mention how many great photographers, from Kubrick to Salgado, have been utterly obsessed with lenses.

Moreover it's not like the OP is waterboarding you for an answer. If you consider the topic silly, why particapte?

I do fancy a 35 Summicron V1, need to change my 15 VC for the later model, need to sell one 21 Elmarit (probably keep the earlier mandler pre ASPH). Wonder about a 21 summilux

My wish list....

35 Noctilux

I own several, but mainly use my original non Aspherical Summicron 35mm I got over 20 years ago used.  The other lenses, 28mm Summicron Asph that I am starting to warm up to on the T ......., 35mm Summilux Asph, an ancient  50 f1 Noctilux, 50 Summicron, 90 Elmarit.  All excellent.  All different.  Another great lens I love is the Leica R 100mm Apo Macro using adapters to the M.

Too many.

Standard set is 21/3.4, 35/1.4 pre-FLE & 75/2 - these will cover most eventualities extremely well, so I shouldn't really need the others. However, some are nice and shiny and a few are most certainly not. I'll keep them anyway.

I tried to find an old thread with the same subject a while ago, I did build a spreadsheet summarising the responses on that thread. Accepting that most who replied had several and it was probably not representative but the average was double figures for those who did. One or two managed circa 100 lenses !

I think I was 10 at the time and bang on the average, I thing I could be happy with four if I really had to.

21,28,35 and 50, then if three 21,35,50, if two 21,35, if one 35 (or possibly 28)

Usual four lenses for travel:

24 mm  Elmar f3.8  (noted for edge to edge sharpness and flattish MTF curves)

35 mm ASPH Summilux f1.4 pre-FLE  (IMO renders  in a similar way to 50 mm ASPH Summilux)

50 mm ASPH Summilux   (very fine lens - wonderful balance of sharpness and bokeh; the pick of my lenses)

90 mm Summarit f2.5   (relatively light 90 mm lens; my previous 90 mm Tele-Elmarit thin: had some flare issues)

Three lightweight extra lenses:

15 mm VC f4.5                    (mainly used as wide angle [22.5 mm] on Ricoh GXR with A12 mount)

28 mm ASPH Elmarit f2.8  (hiking)

50 mm Zeiss Planar f2       (hiking)

Of course, post as you please, as will I :)

I understand your point, BTW, and I admire the simple life of one lens. But we are all different, and some of us like to compare obsessions :)

No offense taken, and no personal offense intended.

Best,

Charlie

I'm embarrassed to say I have none :D

You are a Zeiss Man, but they make M lenses, no? :)

What is your current ZM lens set? I will guess:

wides: I don't know cause I don't see you shoot very wide :(

normals: ZM 35s, 2.8, 2, and 1.4; ZM 50/2

long ZM 85/2

What else?

Hey Charlie, that's very funny :)

My current lineup is in my signature. I also used to own the 18 distagon but I'm not much into extreme FL so I sold it. I also sold the 35 biogon to make space for the c biogon and distagon but I kind of regret it now as it is the perfect companion to the 50 planar. In fact I could easily do all of my photography with just the biogon + planar.

Sure, why not?

A 21 SEM, 35 Summicron IV, 50 Summicron, and a  90 Elmarit M which is my standard kit.

Plus a wonderful 1969 50 Summicron v3 that I keep meaning to sell but never get around to listing.

Plus a 135 Elmarit that I bring out when needed. "Big Ugly."

Plus a 90 TeleElmarit that I wore out 20 years ago but never got around to throwing out.

Plus the 70 Summarit on my S2.

I'm a hobbyist, not a pro.

Leica lenses:

35mm f/2.5 Summarit, 50mm f/2 Summicron v5 and 90mm f/2.8 Elmarit (1972).  I mostly use my M-E and M Monochrom for travel, street and portrait/event photography and the 50 Cron is my most used lens.

Non-Leica lenses:

Carl Zeiss Jena 5cm f/2 Sonnar T (1941 coated), Carl Zeiss Jena 5cm f/1.5 Sonnar (1937 uncoated) and Zomz 5cm f/1.5 Jupiter 3 (1963 coated).  My two real and one knock-off Sonnar lenses are mostly used for portraiture and photographing people at events.  The f/2 is sometimes used for street photography, while the faster f/1.5 lenses with their unique Sonnar bokeh are probably my favorite ever lenses for shooting people, especially women.

I plan to add a 28mm lens, probably the 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit ASPH or possibly the f/2 Summicron ASPH if I can justify the price.
