Do you have a backup camera?

My M9-P is my backup for my M240 and my M240 is my backup for my M9-P :)

This is pretty much it for me. Still have the M9 but always go to the M240 first. For work, the M240 and Canon 1DX back each other up. I also have a Ricoh GXR, but never use it (not that it isn't nice). I've kind of avoided buying other 'casual' cameras because why then did I buy the M in the first place? OK, it's expensive, but that doesn't keep me from using it casually. Insurance is good to have, if only for peace of mind.

Well, considering I recently ordered up the 246 Mono and a 28mm 'Lux for personal use INSTEAD of the bulky and highly noticible Nikon 800E/810 and Otus combos I had been using, my goal was ultimately to have a small, high resolving, Raw capable color cam as a backup. But my AWSOME wife of 15 years just suprised me w a belated Fathers Day/"retirement" celebration gift of an M240 M-P coupled up w a 50mm APO 'cron.

So...that color M-P setup is my new "backup" for when color is important, and the 246, with one of those two lenses is my primary.....both of these fit into an ONA Berlin bag that is significantly more compact than the THULE Covert DSLR bag I had been carrying (although I freaking love the build quality and overall usefulness of that thing!) and I'm willing to bet both together are almost as light or possibly lighter than the Nikon/Zeiss combo...

which of these would you want to lug around the city all day?

Do I need a backup camera? No, probably not. Do I want one? Yes. What I really want is another M240 to go along with the Silver Chrome version. I notice that prices have really gone down from just a year ago when I purchased my 240 so I am tempted to pick up another one.   This year I had to send my Leica in for repair and I could barely stand not having it even though I have TWO Nikon D8XXX series. I keep telling myself, "NO", you do not need another Leica. It would be great to have two different focal lengths ready to go and not have to change lens all the time.

This makes the most sense to me: two exact bodies with two different focal length lenses for redundant workflows.

XV as a backup to the Monochrom. Although I find they work great together as a pair with the 50 Summilux on the MM.

28-70 with a fast fifty. A M6ttl for when the batteries run out. Mamiya 7ii for when I want more "negative space".

Nikon f4 for long lenses. N85/EM to back that up. Asahi Pentax SV for fun to test my internal meter and because it is a thing of great beauty.

I use a RX1 as back up/business travel camera, but as soon as the Q is introduced with a 35/50 or some sort of zoom the Sony will go. The 28 is just too wide for me.

I also have a D800 and D700 but these are only used for tele work.

Cheers, Tom

That photograph certainly sums up an important reason for why I use Leicas.

So far, loving the Leica T as second to the M since can use my M lenses.  That fact was the sole reason for buying it over the Dlux or the X, which I almost bought.  I am happier with it than expected as has engulfed my time having fun shooting with it.  I don't get some of the criticism that it is overpriced.  Especially if you already have M lenses.  It's is a bargain in that case.  And the EVF gets criticized too but I love it!  It's huge and can really see what your taking compared to other EVFs.

I'm a digital-only shooter these days, with two M8 and a 240, plus a K-3 and S2 (which is possibly smaller than Fast_Glass's Nikon rig shown above!). None of them are specifically backups for others but all can serve as alternatives in regular use.
