Do you have a backup camera?

Nobody here has THE camera.

To dig out from its hiding place and use again, before the war was over. Being a  lucky run-away from captivity after many attempts and having a posthumous exhibition at the MoMA. All the time with scarcity of film and printing paper.

But us here, when it comes to back-up cameras, we're all set.

Though there's always room for more.

I don't feel bad about it, just calling it: progress.

Do you have a back-up feather&ink-pot, pencil, pen, computer?

Every child in many countries has a camera and soon most children worldwide will. It is cheaper than decent food, clean water and fresh air.

There are many forums, where members believe a camera is something special, while thousands are being produced every hour, making today's being tomorrow's yesterday's.

Yep, Vivian Meyer lived in a bubble. Sorry, I like my (film-) cameras,

yet...

there is progress.

Sorry for derailing the thread:

what is the equivallent of Moore's law for cameras?

Not that I care: I love film :)

It is the equivallent of punched-tape and abacus computing.

After all, many people draw and paint,

while there is continuous progress of the IT-technology - including the progress of modern photographic devices.

Horses and sports cars&moticycles (of all ages) coexist  :)

Horses and film will be around for a while.

Bet: in the year 2020 the MP/M-A will not be the only newly built film cameras.

Not a back-up as such, but I use my D-Lux 5 more as an integral part of my M armoury to overcome that system's limitations.  I don't have an M mount 24 mm lens, or close focus capability.  The D-lux plugs these gaps.  I also use it for casual shots when on holiday.

I know the results won't be up to M quality, but for the price, it's not too bad.

A few years back,  I saw the former president of my camera club at Blick Art Supplies where I also purchase paint etc.  Just a different art form for rainy days.

But back to original post,  yes a M8 my first digital Leica.  Then there are Nikons, pro one, primes and zooms,  and a M6.

I admit to having selection paralysis because I have too many cameras.

I will usually take 2 or more cameras. M-P240, M60, M-A of course all take the same lenses. So any two and I can run two focal lengths without changing lenses. If a camera becomes unusable for whatever reason, at least I have one still working. But "back up" isn't the first thought here.

Now I also have the Q, which changes things a bit. I'm on a short break in another city this weekend. Just the Q. But photography isn't the focus this weekend. Backup is the very usable and useful... iPhone.

i have also made a lot of use of the Ricoh GR over the past couple of years. It's size and shape make it as pocketable as... that original Barnack camera. Sometimes that is just right, and will deliver more than the iPhone - but at a similar focal length.

My very first Leica was "X", purchased a month ago. Very soon after, I sold all my Nikon gear and bought a new "M" with  summilux 50/1.4 ASPH. "X" is now backup, but I take it very seriously. It's magnificent camera! Although I post website to follow the pictures taken with it on "X" forum, here I post it again. Welcome!
