furcafe Posted June 19, 2015 Share #3  Posted June 19, 2015 I had the 40/2 M-Rokkor (was my 1s Leica-mount lens I bought over a dozen years ago) & it worked fine on my M 240.  Last year, I sold the lens to a friend who really likes the 40mm field of view (I could spare it because I have other lenses in the same/similar focal length). I have no experience w/the 28/2.8 M-Rokkor.  Appears I only have 2 boring examples of the 40/2 on the M 240, both shot at f/4:   https://www.flickr.com/photos/furcafe/8671871338/   https://www.flickr.com/photos/furcafe/8671871232/
bocaburger Posted June 19, 2015 Share #4  Posted June 19, 2015 The 28mm brings up the 35/135 frame lines on M Leicas, and the 40mm brings up the 50/75 pair, if that matters to you. The 28mm also has a reputation for developing some kind of pox, although I'm not certain if or to what extent it affects performance. I think it may just be on the blackening around the lens elements, but it seems a lot of them are affected and thus a pristine example tends to be rather pricey. IMO there are CV options in both 28 and 40mm which are as good or better performers, bring up the proper frame lines (either in M mount or LTM with correct adapters), and better economic values. tatetate Posted June 19, 2015 Author Share #5  Posted June 19, 2015 Bocaburger,  Thanks your detailed input. Indeed frame lines would matter.  Can you share or give me links to any pictures which has performance issues on M 240 etc camera.  I have got a mint and Clean 28mm M-Hexanon which sadly doesnt focus well on M-240 and all pictures are blur, however 35m F/2 Hexanon is very good.  I am new to M system and trying to build up a kit.  Regards  T
bobbywise Posted June 21, 2015 Share #6 Â Posted June 21, 2015 I have the the M-Rokkor 28 and the 40 mm Summicron-C (similar to the M-Rokkor). If you slightly overturn the M-Rokkor 28, it will bring up the 28 mm frame lines (it's probably not recommended though). You can also have the mount modified to bring up the 28 mm frame lines (a bit added on). Â I actually purchased my 28 mm M-Rokkor from a seller in Italy, and got them to post it to NL for a service (had the infamous white spots). I'm now thinking of selling it because I recently got the 28 mm Elmarit-M. Â The 40 mm is a real stunner of a lens (both summicron-c and m-rokkor). If you under screw it on the mount (probably not recommended), it will bring up the 35 mm frame lines, which seem to be very close to the FOV captured by this lens -- better than the 50 mm frame lines. If you shave a bit off the mount, it will bring up the 35 mm frame lines. Â If you have a body with the arm that toggles the frame lines, you can use that to select the appropriate frame lines (cumbersome though!)
tatetate Posted June 21, 2015 Author Share #7 Â Posted June 21, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there any way to change the rear mount to get the right framelines on 28? Perhaps anything on 40 to get 35mm lines other then cutting/etc. Â thanks in advance. Â Benutzer , do you have any sample pictures of both mentioned lenses? Â Cheers

Alternatively, you could get a replacement 6-bit 35 mm mount. A guy (Ron Jin) in China who sells them on eBay can do a custom one. I've been in touch with him (jinrongshanghai@gmail.com). He has the m-rokkor 40 himself, so he could make you a mount that brings up the 35 mm frame lines. I actually plan to send him my 40 mm cron version mount so he can copy its screw hole positions, and make a 35 mm / 6-bit mount.  I've just been so busy, I haven't managed to get to the post office.  Rob
jmahto Posted June 24, 2015 Share #11  Posted June 24, 2015 Is there any way to change the rear mount to get the right framelines on 28? Perhaps anything on 40 to get 35mm lines other then cutting/etc.  thanks in advance.  Benutzer , do you have any sample pictures of both mentioned lenses?  Cheers I recently did modify 40mm summicron-c for 35mm frame line. It requires **very little* shaving. Under 1mm and if by mistake you go little more than there is no problem. Trick is to shave a little and check and then shave again. And of course carefully covering/taping the rest of teh lens to protect from shaved metal. I used hand held dremel tool but I have read that it can be done with hand held file as well.  See this link for where to shave: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73022  I also managed to code this lens as 35mm f/2. It was challenging but I figured out how. See this post for details http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/185433-m-lens-codes/page-5?do=findComment&comment=2830537  Edit: And I should add that I love 40mm summicron-c. I can also stitch 2 side by side 40mm shots (stopped to f/8) to get 28mm equivalent of *sharp* 50 mega pixel pic. Beats Canon 5DSR for resolution in tiny package!! Well... sort of..... but stitch works most of the time for static nature shots.
