The X Vario lens was designed for the best balance of optical quality vs aperture and overall size.  If you peruse flickr for X Vario images you will see many excellent examples of what can be accomplished with this camera.

Indeed - the performance and versatility of the lens never fails to impress. Some examples of its output on my Flickr pages.
