Q MONOCHROM ?

really jaap? you are comparing rangefinder to evf?

Rangefinder? You didn’t mention a rangefinder. An external electronic viewfinder (your suggestion) doesn’t make much sense when such a viewfinder is already built-in.

And no, a monochrome version of the Q is not at all likely, I’m afraid.

I guess that you need this if you want both on the Q....

I meant a viewfinder. There must be some delay when you are looking through an evf , am I wrong?

X100T has an optical viewfinder with electronic brightlines and parallax correction. It it really such a weird idea?

The frankenviewer although a bit bulky was an excellent tool why not update it? I hear the resolution is amazing on the Q viewfinder but come on, it can't be as good as looking through a piece of clear glass.

The lag is virtually unnoticable. The electronic viewfinder actually looks and feels a lot like an optical viewfinder; you should try it some time.

Of course you are free to use an optical viewfinder on the hot shoe, if that is what you prefer.

Leica has done us a disservice with its recent poor EVF offerings for the M and the T. Modern EVFs are clear and fast; from the reviews, the Q is up there with the best.

Best evf in the market is surprising and very un-leica. Great decision. I still hope they don't give up on the built in optical viewfinders.

The viewfinder of the Leica Q is currently the best available: highest resolution, fast refresh

in an issue of LFI magazine, it was stated that a hybrid viewfinder will make the M significantly thicker and that this was the problem...

Why take something and try to turn it into something it's not meant to be?

Like buying a warthog and trying to make it behave like a Labrador. Or holidaying in London and wanting a beach - dump a bag of builders sand on a bit of bank of the Thames if you want, but it's never going to be St Tropez.

Take the Q for what it is. If you want something else, then get something else!

Hey that's smart advice. You changed my mind , I will order the camera as soon as I wash your spit off my eye.

"And no, a monochrome version of the Q is not at all likely, I’m afraid."

And why would that be?  If the Q had been a monochromatic sensor, Leica would have my money.  There are enough colour sensors on the market already.  Or is it that the the 28 Lux lacks the optical prowess to support a monochromatic sensor?

And why would that be?

Given the rather specialised nature of a monochrome camera it is generally quite difficult to justify building one – that’s why there are so few monochrome models around. Of course Leica could build a monochrome version of the Q, S, T, and X, if they wanted to; there are no obstacles on the technical side. But having one monochrome model in their portfolio Leica is already offering much more than the competition and I don’t quite see them expanding that segment.

This is something that had occurred to me -- I am a huge fan of the Monochrom.  But there is a poster here who has convinced me of the b/w possibilities of the Q :   The Q has really good high ISO capability,  and a Monochrom version frankly may not add that much.  I was never able to get really good b/w out of the M9,  but that may have been my lack of ability.
