50 Summicron v Summilux from f2 onward

If you ignore price and physical size, and ignore the Summilux's ability to shoot at f1.4, do you prefer the rendering of the Summicron or Summilux?

Basically I am trying to understand the differences from f2 and onward.

At f/2 both lenses have a similar sharpness in the centre but the 50/2 is softer in borders and corners. Its bokeh is softer than the Lux's at f/2 though.
Same more or less at f/2.8.
At f/4 - f/5.6 you will hardly see significant differences but the 50/2 has more focus shift there. Nothing to worry about if you don't spend your time shooting rulers ;).

I find it fascinating how successful Leica's marketing has been!  There are numerous versions of both the 50 Cron and Lux and yet the OP doesn't specify and the responder doesn't ask for clairification.  Apparently the assumptions on both sides are that the latest versions are the only ones anyone would be interested in.

Or the assumption that current versions don't need further elaboration.

I made no such assumption. To the contrary, you are making an assumption about the intent and scope of my question.

My initial post was not clear. I will clarify: My question was limited to the current generation of both lenses. It's a legitimate question.

The tone of the forum will be improved if people refrain from making these types of remarks when newbies post questions.

I read it as the non-APO versions of the 50mm cron, all of which are very similar in rendering to each other, and distinctly different from the 50 lux.

... and when ex-newbies answer the same questions... Pity for us old schmucks please! :D

I agree completely, except according to the avatar you are an Erfahrener not a Neuer, so why would you expect me to presume you were a newbie?

What's with the, quite frankly, jerk tone to a lot of the responses here? It's as though there's a group of self-appointed sages who sit in judgement of the types of questions, and particularly, evaluate them as to whether the OP has fulfilled some supposed duty to the sages of the forum to do all of their research, homework, and searching through the forum's archives before ever daring to ask a question. Give me a break. It's a forum. If you don't like hearing questions - whether they've been answered before by someone else or not - then don't spend time here.

It must be such an absolute chore, and completely exhausting, to have to deal with people not as smart who ask dumb questions or don't frame them as a research proposal before you feel a response is worthy of your expertise. I'm not sure I read somewhere that the rules of the forum were to 'make sure your question is worthwhile before posting'. But I'm sure I'll be corrected, since my even raising this topic will somehow signal to some that I 'just don't get it'.

Or, you could just be courteous. That also works.
