Searching the perfect half case - Aventino from Arte di mano? Thinnest leather? Does some one speak corean?

I agree with the above ...... Arte di Mano fit is much better, no buttons or other bits obscured ....... Luigi's are a pain to get off due to the way the popper straps are arranged ..... general finish is also not as good.

The great shame is that Luigi's prices set a benchmark for the others .... but in a straight fight Sejun gets the cash .......  :)

His Leica T and X-Vario cases are super as well....... and the alternative camera body leathers are also excellent ....... oh ..... and his straps are better than Luigi's  ...... need I go on ...... ?

Can only endorse remarks. I tried Luigi and would like to support him, but the quality/fit difference with Arte di mano has to be seen to really understand how far superior they are. It has to be stressed we are not talking margins here, but a completely different league. If you buy anything else you will probably buy twice as I did, and someone got a bargain, compared to Luigi price, on the big auction site.

Hi guys,

first of all many many thanks for all the insights and valuable information. It happened that I was in Vienna last weekend and I was able to have a look at an original Luigi Case at a Leica Store. I must say I was not impressed at all by the fit. There seems to be a quality assurance issue with his cases. Some are great, some not so. This was also confirmed by the shop. For this reason, and since he is also quite expensive, he is out. I do not want to be stuck with a case that is not a good fit. Also the pictures on the thread provided by MarkP are really scary. A real put off for anyone liking asthethics.

Next Pelle replied to my inquiry and confirmed that he has currently not a model for the M-P with all my requirments, but he announced a "new revolutionary design" (quote) in a few weeks, which will meet my requirements. Actually I always wanted to make a trip to Florence, so I might just combine this. After all trying before buying would be perfect and he seems to get much better reviews from you guys.

Finally Arte Di Mano (too far away to go there for a weekend ;) ): If the Pelle Case is not as thin as I hope it will be after inspecting it in Florence, this will be the one I buy. You guys are right all the way: The cases will add some bulk to the already bulky M and I really do not like this idea.  Actually to answer the question I was asked, the main reason for a case is neither improved handling nor decoration: I want the most possible protection so the camera is in a mint condition in a year or year and a half when I sell it. I loved my M9, I love this M-P, but for various reasons their are not yet "my" perfect digital M.

One question for those of you have an M-P and use Arte Di Mano: He seems not to have a dedicated M-P modell: Is the fit on the frame lever too tight (as this blog is reporting http://macfilos.com/photo/2014/10/25/arte-di-mano-leica-m-grip-case-ultimate-accessory-for-your-m-p) or is it conveniently usable. Thx@Livingston for the great pictures. On the second one the fit at the lever looks rather tight ... After all this lever was the main reason for me to go for the "P" (shame on you Leica, that such a basic rangefinder feature is not on the M!).

Thanks again. Happy to be in this forum.

Bernd

P.S.: And very hapy, that there is an autosave function. I accidently hit the back button just before sending this message. You should have heared my cursing.... ;)

The red case is for a Leica M and the black case is for an M-P. That's the reason I bought a second case. The first I bought from a friend, loved the fit and finish and decided to order a new, black one especially for my black M-P. If you look at the cut out for the lever, you will see it fits round it perfectly.

I bought mine simply to protect the finish for exactly the same reasons as you... In case I ended up upgrading in a couple of years.

Since then, I've grown to really love the camera, and unless any new M is smaller and has a built in EVF as well as an OVF, (which it probably won't), I'll be keeping it for along time, maybe two or three revisions... but who knows...?

Ah....

Just realised that I hadn't posted a picture of the M-P case showing the frame lever cut away properly. You are right, the M case is too fine and its close... on the new M-P/M case there is plenty of room... Apologies...!

I have the Angelo Pelle case for my M and it fit like a glove

i have also considered the price, much more cheaper then the other 2 makers(and i got also the neckstrap and backdoor inclusive in the price). Comparing with the prices i have seen from others it's even "cheap" (if we can say so for such items  :D

Hi there,

I missed my M9 after selling it and so finally did the crazy thing and bought a M-P (240) for me  :)). Now I am looking for the right half case and did quite a lot of research and I must say: Half Case makers seem to have an aversion against transparently designed web pages!

What am I looking for:

-Built in grip

-Built in tripod attachment

-Fully removable backside cover

-Nice to have: "Design around the eye-cup" as Pelle calls it (for most protection, I do not need the light sensor)

If I am seeing it correctly:

-Gariz is out, beacuse no backside cover

-Angelo Pelle is out, because he has no model which has all three features at the same time (he has one for M9, but not for type 240!?) At least I can not find this option on his page. I emailed them for clarification

-Luigi is out, because I do not understand his page ;). No seriously: I emailed his daughter, but I am prepared to wait a long time for an answer, but there is hope that he has what I am looking for

-Arte Di Mano is out, because no backside cover. I read this everywhere. But wait! That is not true: on their page http://www.artedimano.com/ they offer the option of a fully removable back door (+$80). Yeah!

And I found out, that they have a model called Aventino, which looks to have a very nicely designed grip. (more like a real grip, not just a bump like the original design).

Does anyone have experience with this model? The page is mostly in corean, but I figured out what I need to know, except one option (screenshot attached). Buy any chance: Anyone able to translate this?

For those of you who have the original arte design: Does the "bump" improve handling similar to having a small grip or ist more a gimmick? The Aventino sure looks like having a "real" grip, but it has a hefty price tag and not the "design arond the eye cup" feature.

Now it could be that all except Gariz are offering what I need. In terms of thinness of the leather (which is important to me) I would rate them as follows from what I found on the net:

1) Arte

2) Luigi

3) Pelle (read somewhere that the leather is soft, but rather thick)

I have had two of these Arte Di Mano cases and I cannot fault them for quality and appearance. They tick every one of your boxes.

Write to Sejun directly, he will reply in perfect English and help with your order/requirements. Superb service and very quick.

Email: sejun99@naver.com

You can even have your name, or any other text for that matter 'engraved' on your case...

Hi,

Many thanks for the very helpful information. I am new to Leica world and was going through this thread to decide which case is for me. I have decided to go for the Arte Di Mano for my silver Leica M240, and I really like the red colour that you in the picture. Would you mind telling me which leather choice this is? I prefer red to the conventional black colour for my Leica, I think it will contrast well with the silver, but the pictures of the Rally Bordo on their website shows a very bright red.

I like the burgundy? colour that you have on this case.

Many thanks!

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

The case in my photos is Rally Bordo. The back case is Minerva Box Black with black stitching, which was a custom made case (they more or less ALL are, you just ask Sejun to quote you for what you would like... I am sure of you asked for a darker red, he would be able to do it...).

And despite the fact it is a very accurate reproduction of the actual colour (at least on my MacBook pro screen) it can also look much more obviously red depending on the light and the angle you view it from.

If my M240P was in silver, I would probably go for one of the standard brown leather cases... Rally Volpe I think it is.

The cases are absolutely fabulous... just perfectly made and the service is fast and reliable. Choosing a colour is actually the hardest part by far!

I've had case with a built in grip but found the added bulk more of a nuisance than a help.

..... ditto with the removable back ...... which I guarantee will spend most of it's time off anyway

Completely agree. Even more so: I use my Luigi's case which is a beauty and an absolute must-have, only 20% of my photographing time. It's all a lot of bulk. But you know leather is just a wanna have, you can also buy a nice leather thingy for your (apple)watch. I would strongly advise Luigi to make some of these

Many thanks. I have emailed Sejun, and will wait to hear back. I actually thought that all the leather they have comes in specific tones and shades, I did not consider that they may be able to adjust how shiny the leather can be especially that it is imported from other countries. I will see what he says. Did you also have the back cover? I read that most people end up leaving it at home.

IMHO Rally Volpe looks stunning with silver chrome. If you search Forum you will find some very good images of this combination.

Thanks. I will have a look now. Rally Volpe is nice, but I am trying to stay away from the conventional black or brown colours for this case. I thought the red will go well with my red soft shutter release and the leica red dot. Although I am scared I will make it too girly at the end :S

You are welcome...

And no, I do not have the rear cover. I wanted something that was as slim and well fitting as possible - and that requirement was met easily, it almost looks as if it is not there. I bought it really just to protect the bottom of the camera when put down and to possibly add a little grip.

I thought about buying the rear cover, but it would just get in the way and add bulk... And I would have to unclip it every time I wanted to use the camera - not only would that be a pain to do, it would mean having to find somewhere to stash it. I would end up losing it within a few trips out...

i am am not sure if he can alter the sheen or the shade of the leather either - but it is worth asking him. He is very helpful and very efficient. Nice guy too.

let us know how you get on. I will certainly be buying more from him when I need anything...

Not sure if this has been answered. This is an option to add initials for 10000 KRW (approx 8 euros).

*edit* and I now realise how old this post is.

Haven't read the entire thread - and what I'm about to say may have been said already, apologies if it's a repeat - but have you considered the Artist and Artisan half case. I've recently got one in black, it fits like a glove and looks the business, plus it makes the feel of camera in hand more secure for some reason.
