Advertisement Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Hi Rick, Take a look here Leica Upgrade program for M9 ( corrosion of sensor). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jonoslack Posted December 10, 2014 Share #22 Posted December 10, 2014 Great initiative by Leica !Too bad I had most of my beautiful Leica gear stolen from my home in August this year. So nothing to send in or to replace for me ... All the very best. It still hurts every time I think of it Bart - but at least this should give you confidence when you decide to dip your toes back in the Leica pond. ho_co Posted December 10, 2014 Share #23 Posted December 10, 2014 For those of us who have worked for both Leitz and Leica, the solution Stefan Daniel offers comes as no surprise, but as a reassurance that the same old blood still flows in the company's corporate veins. Es lebe Leica!

Bill Clark Posted December 10, 2014 Share #25 Posted December 10, 2014 Excellent response. I own film Leica cameras but this response pushes me closer to buying a digital Leica.
Numbers Posted December 10, 2014 Share #26 Posted December 10, 2014 Bravo Leica! I have not been a costumer for so long but I have spent a lot of money on Leica within the last two years. I was a bit worried if it was a mistake to invest in the M system if one is faced with additional cost like sensor replacement on top of purchasing this very expensive equiptment. However, Mr Daniels post has absolutely restored my confidence in the brand and I can see what more seasoned users mean when they hold so much faith in Leicas costumer service. What a pleasure to experience! Bravo Leica!
jevidon Posted December 10, 2014 Share #27 Posted December 10, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) After being told by Leica US that the replacement sensors are not expected until mid-January, I received an e-mail yesterday that the sensors are in and my M9P is being shipped. Mr. Daniels letter is most gratifying. The sensor problem is now on the DP Review website and the usual Leica haters are pouring it on in their comments. I expect that now that the cat is out of the bag, that the used M9 market will be adversely affected.
michaelbrenner Posted December 10, 2014 Share #28 Posted December 10, 2014 Quite a response by Leica. Well done. So rare for a company to stand behind their products in such a stalwart and uncompromising way. Many thanks.
Ecar Posted December 10, 2014 Share #29 Posted December 10, 2014 Thank you, Leica. A fair and elegant response. And thank you to those who helped escalating the matter and worked here and/or behind the scenes to achieve this outcome.
wildlightphoto Posted December 10, 2014 Share #30 Posted December 10, 2014 This is a reasonable and fair response, and I applaud Leica for taking this matter seriously. Agreed - and a real R solution would be another positive step.

povlj Posted December 10, 2014 Share #33 Posted December 10, 2014 How do you know if your sensor is bad? and even if it is OK now, will it go bad later? Should I send my camera in for replacement of sensor now, even if current sensor is OK?
CaptZoom Posted December 10, 2014 Share #34 Posted December 10, 2014 Bravo, Leica and Mr Daniels. My beloved M9s are free of the defects (thus far and hopefully for a long while), but the valuable peace of mind offered by Leica with this announcement is deeply appreciated. Prosophos Posted December 10, 2014 Share #36 Posted December 10, 2014 Bravo to the good people at Leica! It really does make me want to go out and purchase another Leica product. Peter.
otto.f Posted December 10, 2014 Share #37 Posted December 10, 2014 Should I send my camera in to Leica now for sensor replacement even if current sensor OK? At least I won't. Quite crowdy there at the time. And I would have an MM to send in too, which leaves me with a replacement M9 at best from my dealer which does not give me a very warm feeling with Christmas ahead. mjh Posted December 10, 2014 Share #38 Posted December 10, 2014 How do you know if your sensor is bad? and even if it is OK now, will it go bad later? Should I send my camera in for replacement of sensor now, even if current sensor is OK? I don’t think Leica would replace a faultless sensor, even if it could develop that fault later on – the offer is of a “free replacement of affected CCD sensors” (my emphasis). As the issue appears to depend on environment conditions such as humidity, your sensor might never develop this fault, but if it does, Leica’s offer of a free replacement would still be good. If every owner of a potentially affected camera did send it in now, this would clog up Leica’s customer service, meaning that everyone, including those actually suffering from this issue, would have to wait longer for their cameras to be returned. jevidon Posted December 10, 2014 Share #39 Posted December 10, 2014 DP Review updated their Leica article to include Daniels letter and the announcement on the Leica website after I called it to their attention. I am uncertain if the changes were made before or as a result of my e-mail to them.
Rick Posted December 10, 2014 Share #40 Posted December 10, 2014 And, why not wait as long as possible to send a camera in for a new sensor? If, I only had some minor spot I'd wait and send it in as many months or years as I could. I'd get a new sensor, CLA, and who knows what else they would do while replacing the sensor. And, I think the sensor means the whole board. You'd have a mostly new camera to use for years more.
