omar.gurnah Posted April 9, 2015 Share #1  Posted April 9, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All  I bought an M8 this week from a trust worthy eBay seller, with fewer than 1,500 actuations on the clock.  Despite that, after shooting a few rapid frames this morning (maybe 5 or 6 in RAW) the camera locked up. The screen went blank and the red light flashed.  I've tried removing the battery, charging the battery and changing the SD card but no luck. At power on the camera just beeps once, and flashes the red light once. Then does nothing.  Noting ont he screen, or battery monitor up top, and I can't trigger the shutter.  Any ideas on what to do to bring it back to life?  Omar

Loren Posted April 9, 2015 Share #2  Posted April 9, 2015 I would be inclined to return it to the seller.  While you pay a few dollars more, stores like B&H Camera will give a you a warranty and less to worry about if something goes wrong.  Maybe there is some trick to fix the problem that someone else knows.   Hi All I bought an M8 this week from a trust worthy eBay seller, with fewer than 1,500 actuations on the clock.  Despite that, after shooting a few rapid frames this morning (maybe 5 or 6 in RAW) the camera locked up. jdlaing Posted April 9, 2015 Share #3 Â Posted April 9, 2015 Try this first. Â Take the battery out. Insert a different and new memory card. Use the search function here to pick the best memory card based on users experience. Put the battery back in and see if it fires up.
jaapv Posted April 9, 2015 Share #4 Â Posted April 9, 2015 What is the serial number? There was a small batch in early 2007 that did exactly this. Most - we thought all of them- were corrected by the factory.

david strachan Posted April 9, 2015 Share #6 Â Posted April 9, 2015 Bad luck Omar... Â I've had similar problems, about twice in 2 years of intense M8 use. Â Â Turn Off leave battery out for several hours (overnight) Fit fully charged (overnight) brand Leica Battery. Format Card using SDFormatter V4.0 Insert card and turn on camera Try to negotiate a return to seller, if that doesn't work. Otherwise it's repair joint... Â Using C (continuous mode) has been reported to lock M8's, so don't use it! Â Reading suggests, the Leica M8 is v reliable. It's a wonderful camera ( 2 x black and silver 2006) Â Good luck, Dave S
