Stein K S Posted April 3, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi This topic is robably very "exhausted" in this forum... and I must admit I did not do any search on this either... However, since new in 2011 my two batteries for my M9 show "low battery" capacity and camera stop to work when remaining capacity show 40-50% remaining under "Info". And I do hardly get any warning either... 2-3 shots max until camera close down. Batteries are regularly totally emptied & fully charged. Am I the only one experiencing this? Or is it " just the way it is"? I guess I can live with it tjis way, but still seems strange... Thank you for all feedback! Advertisement Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Hi Stein K S, Take a look here M9 battery capacity. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Subject Focus Posted April 3, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 3, 2015 Mine also does the same thing. Around 30% or so it stops working.
pico Posted April 3, 2015 Share #3 Posted April 3, 2015 Two of mine are still behaving perfectly well. One did act as you described, but it was a counterfeit. I threw it away.
Guest )-( Posted April 4, 2015 Share #4 Posted April 4, 2015 Batteries are regularly totally emptied & fully charged. Someone else might correct me but my understanding is that it is very bad for these batteries to drain them to empty regularly, it shortens their lifespan considerably. Hi and thanks I should have been more accurate... By regularly I mean 1-2 times a year. Thought this was recommended... Regards, Stein Kjetil
250swb Posted April 4, 2015 Share #6 Posted April 4, 2015 You could try pressing 'Set' when you get the low battery warning. This is a trick to get the camera to recognise aftermarket batteries that you know are charged but the camera has it's own ideas on the matter. But you shouldn't regularly discharge your batteries fully as a maintenance step. Steve

It is a sure way to kill them before their time is up and possibly the cause of OP’s problem.
Jeff S Posted April 4, 2015 Share #8 Posted April 4, 2015 And in typical Leica Fashion, the manual is not helpful. From the M8.2 manual: "A new battery only reaches its full capacity after it has been fully charged and - by use in the camera - discharged again 2 or 3 times. This discharge procedure should be repeated every 25 cycles." I ignore this and have not had any problems with Leica brand batteries, charging after a typical daily shoot. Stein K S Posted April 5, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted April 5, 2015 Hi and thanks a lot to all of you! And yes... then the manual do appear to be somewhat misleading as pointed out. And I'll definitely try the "Set" trick Regards, Stein Kjetil
IWC Doppel Posted April 5, 2015 Share #10 Posted April 5, 2015 I had real problem with aftermarket but have used two gen batteries for years in my M9 and one in my M8. I do swap when recommended by the software but often will use a fair bit beyond. Every now and then I do drain fully and do find that the indicator goes to 100% or nearly when fully charges and reinserted. They have taken their share of 20k actuations so quite happy really
