How do you know a salesman is lying? His lips are moving.

Hey, hey, hey! ;)

Admittedly, there is pressure on sales people to "sell what we have, not what we don't have." But in our shop, we'd likely just say "Leica has said nothing to us about a revised MM - and won't until they announce it publicly. Could be next month, or next year, or longer." Same for Sony and Fuji and Canon - when they tell us, we know. Until then, we don't. And we're happy to say so.

Even our Leica reps don't get much more than a month's notice of new products - you can tell something's coming when they STOP saying anything, or at least get really vague in their answers ("You just never know!") They are sticklers for the NDAs. Their first notice is usually when they get a call to a "training session" at Leica NJ - which is when they clam up.

But I agree that this particular salesperson's techno-gibberish was silly, and not even necessary. As the old saying goes - "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool - than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."

Michael R. at LuLa recently posted a video/audio interview with an Epson rep discussing the new 13" SureColor P600 printer (to replace the R3000).  Michael asked the rep about a 17" version, which he said would be more appropriate for 'serious' printers, and the rep said he didn't know of any such plans.  The P800, the 17" replacement for the 3880, was announced last week.  So much for either candor…or knowledge…as the rep mentions his various conversations with Epson regarding product evolution and recommendations.  So it goes.  I believe things when I see them (except for magic).

Kodak 760m was much earlier.

Jeff

The 760m was the last Monochrome camera in the Kodak DCS line-up, and I think only two units were made around 2001. Banding was an issue. The DCS700 series was the first to use uncompressed 12-bit data. The crop factor of the 760 was 1.3, same size sensor as the M8, but used 9micron pixels. Kodak made monochrome cameras starting with the DCS100m (1991), DCS200m, DCS420m, and DCS460m. I have their first Infrared DCS200ir, also monochrome. Kodak made a color-infrared DCS460cir using the Infrared-Ektachrome color scheme.

The M Monochrom is the first 35mm full-frame digital monochrome camera. Kodak did not make a monochrome version of the DCS 14 series, but a monochrome version of the sensor is available.

Short memory…you didn't even think it would be built and didn't see a reason for it.  That's even worse than saying you wouldn't buy it.

Jeff

I still can’t believe they built it. I only needed 20 minutes with a pre-production camera to be convinced.

I have found that the good salesmen do not need to tell fairy stories. In England many people have the misconception that a salesman is someone who will tell you anything to encourage you to buy something.A good salesman ie one that makes a good living from his profession will tell the truth be honest and give good advice to help close the sale. A previous poster made a good point about Epson. 2 weeks ago I tried to order an Epson 3880 printer from Calumet in Manchester. I was told they where on back order and when I asked about the rumoured replacement it was suggested I come to their open day and talk to Epson people at the end of April. The replacement has just been announced . No prizes for guessing who gets my business .

In the case of an Epson 3880 a fairly plentiful supply on the Internet and at a discount. The internet is a great source of information which enables a prospective purchase to be researched very carefully. I am in London again in a few weeks and if I go near Red Dot Cameras I will come out with a Monacrom. :)  :)

My knowledgeable store owner in Montreal assures me it's coming, and in late June. I have no reason to disbelieve him. Now whether I need one (as opposed to wanting one), is another question......

It aint going to happen Bro....................You might as well buy now

From the Dalsa site regarding the above 35mm full-frame monochrome CCD, "Very large area, high dynamic range, high speed, robust antiblooming and low noise--the FTF7046 combines these features all in one image sensor. If you need the highest 35 mm image quality available, you need the FTF7046."

I wonder if the above is the 60MPixel monochrome sensor used in the new Phase 1 monochrome back. Dalsa has a range of high-Megapixel monochrome CCD's.

Well, Leica Rumors announced the new Monochrom - including the Korean registration- in March 2014, October 2014, Januari  2015, etc..

If one announces it often enough at regular intervals, one day it will come true.

If this is a real rumour - well until it is proven true it is as unreliable as all the previous ones....

As I said before, Leica needs to get away from that CCD for financial reasons, so the sooner the better.

I realize this is difficult for you, but you don’t HAVE to buy an eventual new model. You could - even if only in theory- carry on using your present camera,,, :p

hahahahahah....so funny Jaaaf

One cannot very well argue against those registrations in Korea; if a camera model gets registered there it is probably for real. leicarumors.com once thought the M Monochrom (Typ 230) was a completely new model when in fact it was a mere variation on the existing one. So the question is what the M Monochrom (Typ 246) will turn out to be. Time will tell.
