Because they can buy sharpness but they cannot buy talent.

 

So in their uneducated minds, they substitute talent for sharpness and there they are, happy to be "good photographers".

 

I'd rather call them efficient button pushers & producers of sharp files.

True, but it has been said before with more authority...

but I am not looking at all for sharpness, I like the 3D of Leica lenses + a small system

 

and Sony Alpha is not a system

 

 

Look there are lots of things I like about M, put them all together and I am prepared to spend the money

 

Take enough away and I wouldn't. If picture quality degraded to something that always looked like one of Capa's more blurry ones .... I mean my £70 Nikon FM10 can also do that with golfball grain :D

if I want sharp photos I sell my Leica gear and I buy .....

If I want sharp photos I use my Leica or Canon gear appropriately - all are perfectly competent. But I use my Leica gear because I enjoy using it and as a consequence [i think I] take 'better' photos with it. Whether they are always 'sharper' is irrelevant to me, and that's not what photography is always about anyway: its about the image, and the image taking process has everything to do with how and why you take photos. Enjoying using the equipment that you have (as opposed to 'would like' (ie GAS)) is a part of the photographic process to me - although not to everyone I would guess.

When you buy sharpness, in some way you are also buying the talent of many optical and mechanical engineers. Let's not forget the guys working behind the scene ;)

 

Then again, a common way to stand out of the crowd is sporting special goods others cannot afford. Goods that give the potential to do something other people can't do.

Being it a Lamborghini or the sharpest lens money can buy... most people are just happy thinking that "owning the best" is a good approximation of "being the best".

And if they are really happy, this is a good thing. There's no price for happiness.

I have a D810 and Otus / Zeiss set up - 21, 55, 85, 135. Results can be great. But I pretty much only use this set up on a tripod, so not much of the time. Heavy, bulky, hard to focus accurately - only really with the zoom function in live view.

 

I love the unobtrusiveness, quality, and ease of use of the Leica M system - digital and film. I have hesitated at times buying Leica digital, but not Leica film and never hesitated buying a Leica lens. The 50 APO is my favourite lens and it is very special. Aside from the optical qualities I love that it relates well to the Barnack ideal for compactness. Even 39mm!

 

I think I can get best results with some subjects with the Otus set up, but use the Leica M much more often, and get more pleasure from using it.

I was also thinking of this photographer's work flow and how he adapted this lens for his photography.

 

I too believe it is not the tools that makes better photography but the photographer.

So i too believe if you are good and getting behind this would make your photography much much much more better.:rolleyes:
