Dhuff Posted March 4, 2015 Share #62 Posted March 4, 2015 Many good ideas above - so mine is more basic - when selling a $8K camera or a $16k camera, please include a camera strap that does not immediately find the bottom of my waste basket. It is completely antithetical to the entire Leica concept, but does overjoy many third party vendors.

alainD Posted March 4, 2015 Share #67 Posted March 4, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) A low cost Leica is a used Leica. This is a key reason why Leica cameras used to keep their value much better than other cameras. That made it easier to "invest" more money into buying new gear, knowing one would be able to sell it later for a good price... Now, with the M-E, S-E & co, Leica has essentially killed the used market. Example: I bought 2 years ago a S type 006 for about 22k. It sells used for less than 10K now in stores and I've been offered less than $5k for it... The equation high acquisition cost + perceived low quality control + low resale value is NOT working. msettanni Posted March 4, 2015 Share #70 Posted March 4, 2015 Continue producing cameras in a rangefinder format but get out of the boutique business, which the Leica M-series wasn't originally intended to be, and return those products to a more reasonable price structure. scranor Posted March 4, 2015 Share #71 Posted March 4, 2015 My three main points are as follows: Concentrate on ideas that will continue to make Leica a leader and innovator in photography. Remain steadfast in your commitment to produce items of the finest quality and design. Measured growth is key. Please carefully define your market and do not overproduce. michaelbrenner Posted March 4, 2015 Share #78 Posted March 4, 2015 1. Keep rangefinder and keep it optical first and foremost. 2. Improve optical viewfinder as follows: . . . a. Automatically switch magnification as required: . . . . . i. 28mm (and 35mm to a certain extent) should have frameline area narrowed so one can see outside the actual capture area so that photographer can see what is around the capture area and react to it (e.g. objects about to enter capture area or which could be included for more pleasing composition) . . . . . ii. Make frameline area for 90mm and 135mm lenses large enough so subject can be seen more clearly and to make rangefinder focus more practical and accurate . . . b. Accuracy - framelines should accurately depict capture area at any distance . . . c. Hybrid viewfinder - on-the-fly choice of . . . . . i. Optical rangefinder . . . . . ii. High quality digital viewfinder with on-the-fly choice of rangefinder patch or focus-peaking, both of which have zoom option (for rangefinder, just subject not rangefinder patch should increase in size)
IkarusJohn Posted March 4, 2015 Share #79 Posted March 4, 2015 Welcome! As ceo, listen to people who actually know what they're talking about and lead. Standardise the M body and provide for upgradeable electronics - it's a crime that my perfect M9P has gone into the bin because of a crappy sensor failure, when my over 50 year old M3 still functions like new. Good luck.
drdannn Posted March 4, 2015 Share #80 Posted March 4, 2015 The Digilux 2 was an amazing camera. Make another one, same lens, 2015 technology. Also work on the freeze-ups of the M. Leica says the M240 is weather resistant but there is no rubber ring at the lens mount. Best of luck with Leica. Hope you keep the heritage of the M alive and well. It is why I use the M. No need for a built in evf. I have the external evf and hardly ever use it.
