Bill Livingston Posted February 11, 2015 Share #21 Posted February 11, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) When I first saw your original picture I thought, exactly the same camera... black M-P with 50 Lux (I also have a 35 Cron ASPH and a 90 Elmarit) and it looks like the same watch. When I saw your Sub just now I panicked and thought I don't have the 'Rolex' round the inner bezel below the glass... (rolex repeated all round the inside). Panic panic panic... have I been ripped off...!? Phew... just looked. Sure enough, its there... You know, I NEVER noticed it before.... (That bed isn't a Dux is it...? Now that would be REALLY creepy!)

r7photo Posted February 11, 2015 Share #22 Posted February 11, 2015 I have a black m-p on the way, traded chrome 240, how does black paint wear?
jaapv Posted February 11, 2015 Share #23 Posted February 11, 2015 Too well for brassing lovers- it took me two years to see any brass on the edges. Pretty tough coating, not paint.
bocaburger Posted February 12, 2015 Share #24 Posted February 12, 2015 Same here. I had a black M8 and M9, neither of them showed any brass after 3 years of continual use (but not abuse). Expect my black M240 to do likewise. Leica must've changed paint or application because my black MP brassed at various edges in a (to me) alaming and unacceptable rate. jaapv Posted February 12, 2015 Share #25 Posted February 12, 2015 In my experience the Epoxy (?) coating on the 240 is even tougher than the M9. Nothing like the soft paint on the film models.

Is the finish as deep in appearance, and as luxurious as the old paint? Is the 240 black that way and tougher? Both? Really? When is the last time we have seen IRL a real enamel/paint M body? . dunhoy Posted February 12, 2015 Share #27 Posted February 12, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...cheaper than the Rolex Overtime a Rolex will hold or increase in value... a digital M will not, it sheds value from day one. That said, taking pictures with the M240 is more satisfying than telling the time on the Yacht Master.

bocaburger Posted February 12, 2015 Share #29 Posted February 12, 2015 Is the finish as deep in appearance, and as luxurious as the old paint? Is the 240 black that way and tougher? Both? Really? The black M8-9-240-P finish is more matte (closer to the black chrome look) than what was on my MP. And that got even glossier (unevenly) as it wore thin. The thing about "patina" is, lots of Leica buffs love it when it happens on their camera, but it's quite an economic liability when time to sell it on. Unless relaxing on the deck of your yacht My sub, bought new in 1991 for US$1600 has indeed appreciated beyond inflation. Subs/Sea Dwellers, Yacht Masters, GMT Masters, and of course Daytonas have all outperformed the market. Even the Explorer and Explorer-II. OTOH the ubiquitous Yuppie icon 2-tone SS/Gold oyster datejust I bought in '86 for $1300 seems to be selling in the $2000-2500 range now, which would put it below inflation. Well I bought mine for $30 in Thailand and it never needs winding. Just the odd small battery every year or so.

You were ripped off! I got my Rolex in Turkey, the man assured me it was a genuine watch, and I parted with £5. Needs a new battery though which will be about £10, I've found the local Rolex dealer so will take it to them soon.

Definitely - you know as soon as you handle it. Other cameras just haven't felt right to me... I've had DSLR's, MfT and even a Leica T. Love the pics, my black m-p has shipped, so all I can do is droll for now, great pics from your new cam Congrats!
