Unused 30% discount voucher

Has anyone got an unused 30% discount voucher, which they are not proposing to use. We Europeans did not get these with our M8's - boo-hoo. I would be happy to come to a mutually agreeable arrangement with anyone who could pass one of these on to me or buy the lens for me, so that I could consider a new Noctilux, now my tax rebate has finally come through. The 30% would be the difference between a new and second hand lens. I am a little worried about getting a second hand one, as this is a big, heavy, delicate lens and you just would not know how it has been handled.

Another case solved by tea-time, with the assistance of my trusty side-kicks, Snowy and Jock

Andy,

When I used to walk across London Bridge on my way to work in the early 1970's, I occasionally used to talk to John Mann, who played Snowy. He had left the acting business and was working in the City.

I did not realise the vouchers were on offer in Europe, as I had only read about members on the other side of the pond discussing how they were going to spend theirs. If there are any European members who would want to come to an arrangement on an unused voucher, this would be even easier.

This is sounding like Vienna in the dark days of the early Cold War -- exchanges of messages in cafes, that sort of thing. You will find that the Europeans got a European price list (basically German 19% VAT built-in before calculating the discount) which made the Noctilux and the WATE with frankenfinder seem like the only really outstanding deals. The Americans did better, getting credit for the lower sales tax available on things shipped in such a way that no single state could claim them. This lead to a not-very-fascinating thread on Yankee imperialism that may have given you the impression that only Americans were getting this special treatment.

I should introduce you to my cousin, Richard (true). Then you will nearly have the full set :)

Well given the current advertised new price of the Noctilux of some German dealers the leica 30% off equates to almost 50% off at this point in time. I have one on order due sometime next week if leica's delivery date of 8 weeks from order holds true, just in time for week 21 filters 55 & 60mm.

Andy,

John used to say that if anyone came up to him going "dit diddle-it diddle-it diddle-it etc etc", he would stick his umbrella into them.

Presumably the original early M8 purchaser has the right to sell his new 30%-off lens to a friend, but does the warranty for that lens go along with the lens to the friend? That's where I suspect a difficulty might arise.

I think on a new lens, I would be prepared to risk the guarantee. On all the new lenses I have bought over the last 40+ years, I have never had to claim on a guarantee. I was comfortable to lose the guarantee on my Zeiss 21 Biogon by changing the bayonet myself. I had rather thought the vouchers would be non-transferable and the original purchaser would have to buy the lens. That's why it would be a much simpler transaction with a European voucher holder.

I agree it is a bit like Harry Lime's (The Third Man) Vienna. I keep hoping someone sidles up to me, opens his shabby mackintosh and goes "Pssst - wanna buy a nice new Noctilux - 6 bit coded 'n all".

I llve in Europe (at least some would argue that point of view) and have gone through the 30% process.

Leica will want the following:

1) The invoice with date of purchase of the camera

2) A copy of the actual cash or credit card receipt for the camera

they will return these to you and when after they are convinced you are the actual purchaser and other stipulations are met.

You'd best have the person purchase the lens and then send it to you IMHO.

The Terms and Conditions warn that the vouchers is for use of the original purchaser, is not transferable and you have to provide proof of purchase in your name.

If you want to be legalistic, I suppose somebody could buy a lens at the discount from Leica and sell it on, in an unopened box, to whomever. The guarantee should transfer to the new owner then.

Thank you all. I am sorted out on this. I have bought someone's existing Noctilux and they are going to get a new one from the factory for themselves.
