Advertisement Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Hi pixel35, Take a look here Average M9 use, What's your actuation No ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
otto.f Posted November 22, 2014 Share #22 Posted November 22, 2014 You open the app. You open Finder where the DNG file of your last photo is. You drag this DNG file into the window of M9info, then several properties are being showed
pixel35 Posted November 22, 2014 Share #23 Posted November 22, 2014 Thanks Otto. Must be me. The app won't open in a window. I'll search the forum.
k-hawinkler Posted November 22, 2014 Share #24 Posted November 22, 2014 Simply find: Image Unique ID: 0000000000000000000000000000424e Looks something like that in Preview. Then in browser search type: 0x424e in decimal Leading zeros can be ignored. Hit return. Result will be: 16974 That is the number of actuations in my example. pixel35 Posted November 22, 2014 Share #25 Posted November 22, 2014 K-H Thank you. My unique number minus zeros is 3F10 which apparently means I have activated the shutter 16,144 times. I am shocked, but happy to be back on topic! Regards, John
Rus Posted November 22, 2014 Share #26 Posted November 22, 2014 I thought we can enter M9's service mode to see the shutter count (just like what ppl did with the M8)? Or is the shutter count in the M9 service mode not reliable? PS: For service mode, do the button dance: Delete + Up x2 + Down X4 + Left X3 + Right X3 + Info. The shutter count is in the debug info. thompsonkirk Posted November 23, 2014 Share #28 Posted November 23, 2014 I recently sold a couple of cameras on Craigslist – an M9 and an X100s. Almost every inquiry I received asked "What is the shutter count?" Used camera buyers seem to have become obsessed with shutter actuations, as if they were buying a used car and were asking about mileage. I read somewhere that the Leica engineering standard for shutters is 150K actuations. So I don't see how any number of actuations that have been mentioned here could make much difference in predicting an M9's condition or longevity. I answered their questions, but should have said "It's had an overhaul, but the valves are wearing again, so it's burning some oil." Or as one mighty say of a Volvo, "It's gone over 100K mi but probably won't need expensive repairs for another 100K or so." I did tell one person that if Leica expects 150K actuations, then my M9 with 14K was less than 10% 'used up.' Or if folks are thinking in terms of human lifespan, I could have said it's not yet reached its teens. Kirk
Tom Johnston Posted November 23, 2014 Share #29 Posted November 23, 2014 this works...great... thanks I thought we can enter M9's service mode to see the shutter count (just like what ppl did with the M8)? Greenacres Posted November 24, 2014 Share #30 Posted November 24, 2014 I bought my slightly used Steel Grey M9 (serial number 420****) two years ago from a London dealer. I have dragged my latest DNG file into M9 info and note that my shutter count is a very modest 2388. However, I also shoot Canon EOS and Micro 4/3 systems, as well as an M6, Bronica SQ-A and Yashica Mat 124G. Too many cameras and not enough time. paulholland27 Posted November 24, 2014 Share #31 Posted November 24, 2014 My M9 comes with me everywhere and has done ever since i bought it from Richard Caplin 4 years ago. Now at 46,094 shots and still love it.
pambusby Posted November 26, 2014 Share #32 Posted November 26, 2014 Thanks for your suggestion to download that app (M9info). I did so, opened a recent shot and the ImageID (shutter) says : 6918436. Is that the number I'm looking for? If it is, something is seriously wrong because I purchased this new and have used it only a couple of times. What am I missing?
